I feel the same about Mulcahy as I did Hunter - cheering for him would feel like selling my basketball soul.

But as golf taught us this week, it doesn't pay to stick to your principles. When you get a chance to take the bag, you take the bag. Mulcahy is a bag and I would take him.

Is it crazy to think we still might make 2 more additions this offseason? Or is it likely going to be just 1?

So we like Rutgers Paul Mulcahey as the solution to our PG deficiency?

5 assists a game with a +2 Assist/TO ratio who plays above average defense and is 6'6"??? Uhhhh yeah, I would say we like him.

Edit: Oh and shot 37% from 3.

Edit edit: And most importantly, plays hard every single play and listens to his coaching staff. This alone would make me like him more than our options last year.

Reeves should be entering the portal soon. Michigan as the early favorite, but we will be involved and have a decent chance to get him if we push. We may be waiting on someone else though as well...
Sounds to me like we’ll not go all out for Reaves (or he’ll just want to go to Michigan anyways) and we’ll say it’s cause Mulcahey is portaling. Then Mulcahey (who is current not even guaranteed to portal) will either not enter or even if he does, just as likely to go elsewhere as he is to Illinois (he is from NJ and hard to believe he’d transfer to a conference rival). So all in all, sounds unlikely to me! Hope I’m wrong

They are in two completely different categories of dislike for me
Hunter - publicly dissing Illinois, our fanbase and everything we stand for - even if he played for us I would feel wrong rooting for him
Mulcahy - an annoying player that you don't like when he's playing against you, but is effective and would absolutely root for if he's on our team

If Illinois hadn't played against him for 4 years and most fans drawn their own conclusions that he was unlikeable!!! His court play embodies "everyday guys"

Near perfect fit for 2023/24.

Probably easier to say in hindsight but given a choice between Mulcahy and RayJ, I think Mulcahy is actually a better fit for our roster.

I will stipulate that RayJ is the more talented player in a vacuum. But he’s not overly big or long, not overly quick or explosive. Also would probably look to be a top 2-3 scoring option. I don’t know how well he will be able to get his own shots or defend at the P5 level. Of course a sample size of only one game, but he went 5-19 against a Michigan team that did have length and athleticism but I wouldn’t say was overly locked in on the defensive end. Great playmaker though.

Terrance will probably average close to 20PPG. Coleman will probably look to be more assertive offensively based on NBA feedback. Domask and Quincy are both capable offensive players. Dain needs and deserves touches. Luke needs shots. We don’t need a star/alpha at the PG. We need someone who can operate within ball screens, make the correct reads and set up teammates, and ideally play good defense and be able to knock down enough open shots to keep defenses honest. Mulcahy fits that to a T. And although annoying to play against I think he would fit in great with Ty, Sencire, and Jeremiah.

If I was picking first in a pickup game I probably grab RayJ. But for this roster I think Mulcahy type player is a perfect fit. It’s not always about landing the splashiest names but finding the right missing pieces. Hope we get Mulcahy or someone like him.

spot on

So… do we have any High End 2024 targets at this point? Morez is gonna feel awfully lonely being the sole commit and that means other teams will smell blood in the water. Considering our whole roster is like super seniors, this is concerning.
Is it? We will potentially have Dain, Amani, and Morez up front. Williams, Rodgers, Goode, Harris, DGL (Morreti?) playing 1-3. The reason we have so many super seniors is because that's what we have targeted in the portal. We'll very likely be portal shopping next off-season as well. I think by design.
