There was just a discussion about this in the football thread but there are a lot of other benefits that come with a scholarship besides the financial aspect.
How many times this offseason have we heard about how someone may enter the portal and we will have interest? And how many times has that led to them not coming (either not entering portal or entering but not being interested in Illinois)? We seem to think we can just get anyone we want and that hasn’t been the reality this offseason

Two maybe? That’s called recruiting we’re not gonna win all of them. Are we supposed to just not recruit? That’s the only way to not miss on a guy. Whats so wrong about getting excited about the idea of landing a recruit? Pretending like we have no chance at something when you have no inside info doesn’t make you a realist.
yeah some people like to pretend like we’re gonna get every single recruit we want and that’s pretty dumb but so much less annoying than the doom and gloom, the sky is falling, why would anyone want to come here, this program is doomed, fire everyone, cancel the season in June, type people.
