If my Spanish serves, he complained that he and his teammates are suffering various ailments from playing five games in a row without any physical therapy (only ice baths), and that the trainer showed up for an important game without athletic tape. Apparently, his complaints (or, more likely, how he stated them) got him the suspension.

Take it fwiw. Or if you’re anti-Belo, write it into the narrative…

Thank you. My Spanish serves me nada. It's good to hear something besides the headline.

I’m not anti-Belo by any means. And I have no idea what transpired in Puerto Rico. But the guy certainly has established a pattern.

Sorry, mate. I meant “you” in the general sense, not directed your way.

Yes, the young man has had more than his share of issues. There is, however, a contingent here that likes to overstate things in order to support the position they’ve staked out.

I am one who appreciates what he brings to the game, and am hoping he gets the off-court problems turned around at Southern Miss for what is likely his last chance.

Here’s an article from the Puerto Rican newspaper, run through Google Translate, that gives greater detail.

An alleged repeated pattern of indiscipline committed by point guard André Curbelo, which included an altercation with a teammate, breaking property of the José Adolfo Pineda National Gymnasium and insulting the leader of the host team, led the Basketball Federation this Tuesday afternoon of Puerto Rico (Fbpur) make the decision to immediately and indefinitely suspend the player from the commitments of the National Team.

A source with knowledge of the situation -who spoke anonymously- explained that the various events with the 21-year-old athlete began before landing in El Salvador to participate in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games.

According to the story shared with this medium, the first event occurred before traveling to San Salvador when he reported that he had lost his passport, which led the Federation to have to arrange an emergency appointment so that he could compete in the jousting tournament. regional.

In what could be considered the most serious incident, the source confirmed that Curbelo had a strong altercation with his teammate Rafael Pinzón in front of the rest of his teammates after an argument on Monday night.

Likewise, the source alleged that Curbelo broke garbage cans and other property of the coliseum where the Central American championship is held and that he used profanity to the leader of El Salvador, Sergio Rouco, in Monday's game.

In that match, the Puerto Ricans dominated the hosts 93-72.

Similarly, the athlete allegedly missed mandatory breakfasts and made derogatory comments about the work of the physical trainer, José Cruz.

On this last point, Curbelo went to social networks to complain that players with ailments have been subjected to an excessive pattern of games and that they do not receive adequate physical care.

“Here they are playing five games in a row, players going through ailments (not just me) and nobody here has received therapy (everything is ice bath and ice bath and ice bath). We have an important game and not even a tape to a practice the 'trainer' can bring. The truth hurt them”, wrote the athlete in response to a tweet from the account “La Guerra del BSN”.

Likewise, on his Instagram account (a.curbelo11) he wrote the following in a story: "The truth hurt them, here are players going through ailments, they are playing 5 games in a row and they can't even bring a mask to a practice" .

Curbelo, who was the team's second scorer with 38 points, will leave San Salvador tomorrow. The source reported that Puerto Rico will remain with 11 players.

“Carlos (Arroyo, general manager of the team) met with him in El Salvador four times, making him understand that he should take advantage of the opportunity, that he should not waste the honor of putting on the Puerto Rican shirt. They tried to make him improve his attitude, but he did not collaborate, ”said the source, who said that with his actions Curbelo hurt the morale of the team.

The suspension of Curbelo – who has had a rocky collegiate career – was announced hours before the team will face the Dominican Republic for a place in the final of these games. Puerto Rico will try to defend the gold it won in the 2018 Barranquilla edition. Curbelo will now go to a third university in the NCAA.

“Under no circumstances will I allow the indiscipline of any player. This is the Puerto Rico National Team! Here there is a conduct to respect and no one goes above or is exempt from being disciplined. Curbelo is suspended indefinitely until I understand that he values the privilege that comes with being part of this National Team," Arroyo stated in a press release.

Unbelievable that he would get into an “strong altercation” with Rafael Pinzón…they were teammates in high school at Long Island Lutheran and for a year at St. John’s.

It may not be the playing time per se but rather the managing of expectations. If Perrin hypothetically was sold on transferring mid-season as an impact player then sits on the bench that’s a coaching failure either way.

Multitudes of these scenarios under BU may undermine his recruiting pitch with future recruits.
Perrin initially planned to enroll in the fall. That didn't work out, so he enrolled in a prep school for academic purposes, but did not play basketball. He then enrolled in the spring.

I think if he had enrolled in the fall as expected; then there was a better chance he might have played. But I don't think anyone was selling him playing time to get him "transfer midseason" from a high school where he was taking classes but not playing.

My mistake. 247 has him as a 2023 prospect so I thought he was convinced to reclass into 2022.

I read his post with a heavy dose of sarcasm, since the attitude of the board seems to have gone from BU can do no wrong to BU can do no right in the last 12 months.

If Undewood had landed RayJ Dennis or some other elite point guard, all would be right with the world. and some people would be talking about Big 10 champaionships, likely final four apperances, and maybe even Coach of the Year awards.

5 year ago when players left a program a primary factor was more likely been relationship with the coach. Things are so volatile now with the changes in college basketball, I tend to doubt if the coach is the primary factor explaining student tranfers.

We don’t know the full story but my bet is if he couldn’t get someone to play point that was better than what he had on the roster it was a waste of a scholarship. His backup plan may have been Ty all along.
Seeming like we have some Hoosier like fans now with very short memories. Need to go to final four not just make the tournament or fire the bum. Ideal circumstance to find a new coach!

It isn't just the RayJ miss. It's his apparent refusal to do the necessary work to take advantage of the opportunities to make up for that miss. For example, Kerr Krissa would be an outstanding addition to this team. Brad didn't even consider recruiting him. At this point, Brad has put all of his eggs in this Ty to point guard experiment and a freshman. The situation doesn't inspire confidence going into the season.

I don't agree with this.

Our early transfers were primarily due to desperation recruiting. Think Matic Vessel, Greg Eboigbodin, Samba Kane, Antony Higgs, BBV, Hamlin, Kouma, Lieb all left because they weren't Big Ten caliber and we were just trying to fill classes. There were also guys like Tevian Jones and Curbelo who were essentially kicked off the team for breaking rules.

So I'd say the opposite, the more recent transfers are guys that left because of the coach or some other aspect of the program.

agree early on that Coach got some good players and filled in with "reaches" that were not B1G caliber players.

The last couple of years - we have had talented players leaving for other reasons.
