Tucker is a wing not a big/forward

Also from what I heard (not a real insider like Indy FYI) is that playing productively in college is not a high priority to him and views CBB as an inconvenience on his way to getting to the NBA

He definitely thinks that way … G League could also be considered … He seems like a Shaedon Sharpe type … Might just go somewhere for the $$ and never play …

One of the NBA guys I talk to pretty frequently says a lot of NBA guys don’t like that stuff … Makes the kid look soft … Dodging AAU to “train” … It’s an interesting thing to do …

what's the difference between a 2 and a 3? In reality there's only PG and Wing.

So if you have a top 25 that is a legit 5 star, he immediately plays over your mid-major transfers. Looking at his vids, this kid looks like an NBA player. If you think you're going to tell him, well we've got a transfer from Southern Illinois that's going to start, but we'll work you in. Then don't waste your time recruiting 5 star kids.
He would be joining the team midseason. I simply don't see a guy reclassing and being an instant starter. You're simply not going to have a guy just instantly jump into the mix at the beginning of conference play.

Also, I get he's a talented 5 star but he's not Cooper Flagg or someone of that talent level. A lot of guys that reclass tend to struggle early.

I personally would sell it as a come enroll midseason and start getting NIL money. We will get you in the weight room early and you will get to practice against far better competition than you would in high school. Basically just treat it as a half year redshirt and then if he's dominating in practice he can earn minutes late in the season.

Also, hes not going to show up midseason and play heavy minutes at MSU either.

This guy, volunteering to be Danned so that the rest of us may enjoy this message board.

He is a hero, not the hero we deserve but the hero we need.
Lol. I've been posting on illini boards for ~20 yrs, if I drove off fans I think it might have shown up sooner.

Indy/Db/Louisv/Illini et al is there any timeline for if/when the 23 pg door is for real closed?

Louisville got burned in this scenario today. 2024 kid re-classed up to join Louisville for summer workouts and announced for NBL today.

Probably heard that there was someone toxic in the locker room

I don't think you're going to land many 5 star players with this approach. They expect to play. Maybe they're willing to not start on a Blue Blood that is full of 5 stars and looks to win big, but they're simply not going to pick your school if they are going to sit the bench for mid-major transfers.

Just look at Jeremy Fears. He wanted a starting guarantee. Now granted, I was concerned with his lack of shooting ability, but he played well enough to make the McDs AA team, so clearly he is doing something right. The kick in the teeth is, we wouldn't guarantee him a starting position, didn't get him, missed or passed on all other PGs, and now we'd be thrilled if Fears was our starting PG, not to mention it certainly wouldn't hurt trying to land his very talented younger brother.

In general I agree with you but this kid is a different case, I'm not convinced he plays anywhere he ends up, don't think he wants to.

Indy is the second person I've seen/heard mention Shaeden Sharpe in reference to this kid

If this is truly the case, and I'm a donator to the NIL funds, I damn well want to know that. I'm not donating money to some random kid who is just looking for some free cash.

As a coach there are no guarantees when it comes to starting or playing time....that has to be earned in practice as well as on court performance in actual games....you either produce or lose playing time

That's a really high ranking. Being a 4 is slightly awkward for us as a 23 reclass if he's looking to play right away. Does he just want to enroll early or is he looking for floor time immediately? And even next year in '24-25, with Morez, Dain, Ty, and Amani all as frontcourt someone would be getting squeezed, no? Again, looks like a great player, but wonder about the fit as the 4 seems like a position of strength for us right now.
It lists him as a small forward/3

Edit…I see this was mentioned multiple times.

Sounds like just the player you wouldn't want in your locker room/taking a scholarship. Pass.

I don’t know why schools can’t/don’t protect themselves from this. Is it because other schools aren’t doing it, so it is a competitive disadvantage to try and do so or is there just no way to do it? I don’t like the whole pay for play thing, so certainly don’t like pay for not play and just take up a scholarship.

considering Fears would be our best PG option - but hard to say we (or I should say I) would be trilled having him as our starting PG.

20/20 hindsight is perfect - at the time we pulled back on Jeremy

a. We were still in running for Kylan Boswell whom it appears we preferred
b. backup plan we pivoted to - Sky Clark was 4 star whom we thought would be our starting PG (no idea if we guaranteed it)
c. Jayden Epps was already on board
d. I watched Jeremy play on TV for LaLumiere and he was not playing PG for LaLumiere. He showed no outside shot.

Now with our PG options - PF Ty, unrated Moretti, and Justin Harmon WAC transfer combo guard - Jeremy is looking much more attractive. Mcdonalds AA selection is a crap shoot. He is still the same player.

Brad had great success in recruiting players in portal last year- TSJ and MM. I think he just assumed he could do it again.
