This is just my opinion, but even if they are, they don't recruit like a top 25 team, and aren't likely to be a top 25 team for the next 4 years. Gonzaga, OTOH, recruits like a top team, so they are different.

How much do hs recruits (or transfer recruits) put stock in bench attitude/hype/energy? Just out of curiosity

St. Mary’s has won a game in each of the last two tourneys and has been ranked higher than Illini in each of the last 2 years final week AP rankings. In fact Illinois wasn’t even ranked in last year’s final week poll. Maybe they don’t HS recruit like a top 25 team, but they must be overall recruiting like a top 25 team cuz, well, that’s what they’ve been of late. And their second recruit in 2024 class is just outside top 100.
