Think there might be more transfers with multiple years of eligibility? It’s nice to have TSJ and Dainja back. Gonna need some continuity at some point.
I’d guess that might be the hope. This year’s team is unique in that your best player is a returning senior and CoHawk is as well. So a foundation was there plus BU adopted a win now approach in part at least to make sure those two stuck around.
With next year’s team, I could see him taking on a player(s) with more than one year of eligibility. But I think BU still will want to stay old, so grad transfers will likely always be part of the equation. Hopefully between last year and this one, BU has developed a feeling for what types of players will work and what types might not.

He recruits and follows looking ahead to future possibility of the misses or passes entering the portal. Think Quincy. Don't think Brad was thinking portal back then but he and the staff are not burning bridges with either Gill or others.

This is an important point. Gill may not choose to come to Illinois now because playing time would be scarce. Its certainly possible he goes somewhere he can play right away, then goes to the portal when he is more ready to play for championships.

Akai Fleming has a little Brad Beal to his game, quick comparison. Wonder if any relatonship to the former U Georgia BB player Vern Fleming fromt he early 1980s. Played with Jordan on the 1984 Olympic team.

In the box score I see Cole Certa on the IMG squad. I guess I just don’t understand not taking one more year to play with the people you’ve grown up playing with if you’ve already signed to your college choice and don’t need the exposure of playing a national schedule.
I guess the world is just different.
Especially, (and this is just looking at one box score) when you get 14 mins....
Something to be said for playing against the best — both in games and practice — and trying to constantly improve. I doubt his ultimate goal was to sign with the college of his choice. He wants to make a living at basketball — hopefully at the highest level. Not about exposure.
I tried to find out if you are right, 'cause for some crazy reason I like looking things up. I couldn't find anything that definitely indicated a relationship but Akai is playing in Marietta, Georgia and Vern played for Georgia. Maybe Vern liked Georgia, the state, enough when he played there that he settled down there and raised a family. Unfortunately, it is only circumstantial evidence.

I find these kinds of articles interesting, but at the end of the day, useless. Reason I say that is you almost certainly need a couple future NBA level guys to make a deep run and potentially win it all, but I don't think the recruiting services are anywhere near reliable enough to play the odds. We've seen lots of loaded college rosters that didn't have the secret sauce, and we've seen others that don't fit the bill emerge as epic teams. I find this data interesting because it's useful to know about where the averages are, but only a gifted staff knows the balance they can achieve with their resources, play style, and perhaps most importantly, intangibles like character. And even then, it's something of a crap shoot.
I get the impression that this staff finds young recruits risky in many ways, but particularly in having the maturity to buy in and do the work without giving in to the whispers and voices that can ruin team chemistry. At the same time, this program won't have the raw dollars to throw at "potential" as a Duke or Kentucky will. This staff is smart and determined, and they've seemed to look for a niche. And I think this team is among the most promising yet. We've got some young talent that has serious potential, and we've got a mix of older guys that have maturity and if not NBA level talent, close to it.
The landscape has changed and will keep changing. As fans, we complain about losing and don't argue with success. We get to see what happened. They have to project how a player, and all the pieces will fit months or years before it happens.
You get to focus on development all year when you are at these places
