Love the optimism but all Big ten players don't grow on trees let alone all American players. I know we have been spoiled with ayo, kofi, and TJ the last few years but I assume it will have to be a money ball approach next year and get a couple of really good guys and not bank on that home run get. I could be was off from what the staff has in the pipeline though
This will be 3 straight years we’ve had an all big ten player from transfer -
2022 - Plummer 3rd team both media and coaches
2023 - TSJ (1st and 2nd team) and Mayer (media 3rd)
2024 - TSJ and would argue Domask has a shot for 2nd/3rd team.

While not likely to get another AA don’t see a reason we can’t get another top 10-15 big ten player or get someone like a dalton knecht.

Speaking of being spoiled with Ayo/Kofi/TSJ, I don't think its coincidence that none of them were supposed to be 1st Team AAs.

Using 247, Ayo was ranked #30 in his class. Kofi was ranked #54 in his class. TSJ was ranked #127 in his class.

None of those guys were supposed to get anywhere close to sniffing a 1st Team AA selection.

We have had pretty good luck with transfers (but is it really luck, though?): Guerrier, Harmon, Domask, Dainja, TSJ, Mayer, Plummer, Grandison, Feliz.

I think through everything, this staff has proven themselves as being pretty darned good at a couple of things that really matter when shopping the portal (and probably overall, not just with portal guys), and that is (1) scouting player talent/ability and (2) player development.

You could also say I'm just a big ol' Illinois homer, and that's true , but I think the statements above are also all true.
You're a big ol Illinois homer! 🙂 But I agree with your point. The staff has done a great job of emphasizing the strengths of our star players and developing them into superstars.

I guess my point is there are couple different ways to skin a cat. If we can get a good to great player in the transfer and turn him into a great player... I'm all for it and it's been proven they can do it. I'm just not sure that will happen always... But since I'm a big ol Illinois homer as well, I'll be there no matter what.

TSJ, Coleman, Guerrier, & Domask being gone should free up a legit amount of NIL.

Was poking around 247, and here's a fun fact about a certain program that doesn't really use the portal, and has the following class rankings:
2023 (94th)
2022 (45th)
2021 (41st)
2020 (37th)
Yeah, that's Purdue.

We will get at least 4 maybe 5 transfers for next year. Can't project any lineups at all yet
Wow. Every off-season is going to be a roller coaster ride. Luckily (for us) that we're one of the haves vs have nots when it comes to NIL(for basketball).

That's said, I just don't see how this is sustainable for the vast majority of programs(us includes?). It would be nice to have 6 or 7 prep players that could get through all four years, with the portal being used the supplement that.

4 or 5 transfers, with a couple being high profile that will be able to carry the team to a top 3 BT finish? That's a huge, highly daunting hurdle to jump.

I just wonder if Adam Miller didn't transfer, what effect he'd have on this team. Did not understand that move at all.

But, hey, as BU and Illinois do--no regrets and keep looking ahead.

welp, Miller's a lead guard now, so it worked out for him

Staring lineup next year: transfer, transfer, transfer, transfer and Ty? LOL.

I just hope the youngsters can grow, progress and contribute heavily to this team next year.
