Dix is more than that. He has a mid range game and can score on all 3 levels.
Oh no...I definitely agree with that. I was just saying that it seems like next year's team (at least the names we've heard about) is missing a guy that is money from deep. Dix would be that guy for sure. And as you said, has a great midrange game.

Does anyone know if JJ has upped his game enough to be a factor for important minutes? He was a pretty good shooters with some handle in HS, wonderful attributes for a stretch four with size. If he has been Fletched to the tune of 250 lbs., he deserves a chance. But we have heard nothing of his progress and the curiosity is becoming pretty intense...for me anyway.

Another day, another live look at incoming transfer portal news for Illinois.

Yeah this isn't portal related but it's a recruiting thread, so I wanted to ask if Alex Costanza is still a guy we're pursuing?
Take this with a grain of salt, but from my take from this board, he is a '26 guy who was considering a re-class to 25. May not be needed as we seem to be seeking to fill his talent offering until next year. An insider could likely cross the T for you...but that does make some sense now....though, admittedly, it is pure speculation.

Someone is going to pay Dix a lot of money because he brings very valuable traits to the court. IL needs him badly, IMO.
Yeah I don't get the take that we don't need him. If our offensive rebounding rate drops at all and our 3 point percentage volume and percentage stays similar, we will be bad.

Wild to think that this year transfer portal consists of a scenario where Josh Dix's camp is asking for $2 million meanwhile Storr may be asking for less this time around. Lol. Overpay for Dix or take Storr on a "discount?" Lol.

Amateur Tea Leaf Reader...so Dix is out and we are moving on to Storr, etc...Indy's earlier posts today per Storr plowed the road for this thought...

I must be watching different Iowa games than everyone else… definitely think Josh Dix is a top tier transfer portal guy
No doubt he is - he also has the highest floor in my mind. I mean, he's improved every year and has played in the Big Ten his whole career - there is not a question if it translates. With some of the mid major guys you never know what the step up in competition will do to their effectiveness. Obviously Indiana has a new coach and wants to make a splash in the portal as well, hence it sounds like they are upping their offer and it's just a question of how high a price tag are we willing to offer

I would want to think that Dix would prefer us over IU given he knows the core of who he'll be playing with and his role, IU only has like 2 players right now and one of them is the coach's son. At this point I would give him our last and final and give him until Sunday to make his decision because we have to move on if he's not coming here, so we don't miss out on other guys

I cannot stress enough how little interest I have in Storr coming here and I'm honestly bewildered that anyone is in favor of it.

Is it him transferring every year will make it easier to get over when he leaves next year?
Is it is 29% 3pt shooting?
His 68% FT shooting?
The less than 1 assist per game average?
That he turns the ball over more than assists?
Is Bill Self reallyyy that much more chill than Underwood?

One part of these high numbers being thrown around that gets easily overlooked is expectations. With high expectations, you never know how someone is wired and how well they will handle it. This is by no means a knock on Dix or anyone else, it is just a reality. In the old setup, if a guy like Dix came in and didn't meet or exceed expectations, no big deal, but if you are getting $2 million to be good, you better believe the pressure is on and expectations are there.

I remember earlier this season Chaz Lanier was getting benched some, and when Rick Barnes was asked about it he said something along the lines of "he is getting paid a lot of money to shoot and to score, and he wasn't doing that". Lanier responded well, but man, it just highlights how different a world this is now. Coleman felt that too. He will get no pity party for making $2 mil, but the man broke down crying because he and the team didn't meet the expectations. I think early in the season that contributed to a snowball of poor play too.

I'm sure the staff thinks about this stuff and if that kind of money ever gets invested, they make sure the kids mental-makeup is good. That stuff can be tough to predict though.

Dix would be terrific on offense, but he is a liability on defense.

With everyone else above average on D, we could have a terrific D without Dix if we just got a good all-round player.

But Dix as a target for opposing offenses lowers our overall D ceiling quite a bit. If we can get a good all-around player for less money, I can see how that is more helpful for the team.
