How on earth did we get out-bid by Creighton? No offense to them, but if we really want a guy, we shouldn't ever lose them to Creighton.

Admittedly, for what I think Dix was going for, I'd rather spend those resources elsewhere. Way too much money for a guy that is mediocre at defense.
I honestly believe that was his destination all along. He was just using the other schools to run up his price tag.... well done Mr Dix!

I am intrigued by twin towers Ivicic

- Akeem and Sampson
- Duncan and Robinson
- Cook and Augustine

If we get big Z I think we can do some very interesting high low action. Plus if I am a guard I want to play with the twin towers guarding the hoop. We could have our guards release early and have a devastating fast break.

The future is very bright. A lot of teams would love to have our personnel and possible transfers.

This SG role has been really tough for us to fill the last two years - we have one of the best offenses in the country we shoot the threes more than the high major teams and nobody wants to come here? It doesn't make a lot of sense - we eventually filled it with KJ last year and moved Kylan over, but just to name a few that we were rumored to be in on last year:
AJ Storr
Maddox
Claude
Richmond
Koby Brea
Marcus Hill

And this year Dix and Sellers have turned us down - I'm starting to get a complex - what is going on? It's a players market and obviously every top kid has a lot of suitors so you are going to miss on more than you get, but we literally have gotten none of the top SG transfers, Louisville has gotten three of them this year alone. But you would think we'd have a really attractive situation - it doesn't add up

And two of those players never even came here, which adds to the fun.

In theory, sure, but Tomi stayed and played another whole season as a pro in the Balkans.

The NCAA ruling that he was eligible, but as a sophomore, was unprecedented as far as I know.

And it begs the question, uh.... is it open season on just buying any European pro with less than four years experience?
What’s funny is that NCAA players are now getting paid way more than those oversee teenage “pros”.

By the end of the portal season, don't think this will be true. Would love to have him though.
What are you thinking with Sarr pretty quiet on that front. I know with Riley he’s waiting to decide but what are our chances?

Wait, are you saying the most likely scenario with WR is that he doesn't go pro and we lose him to another team via the portal?

With no Dix, Could we be back in the conversation for sellers?

#363
We got bounced from the tournament two weeks ago and have supposedly been having back channel conversations with the guys we want for months so why does it feel like we are unprepared or lagging behind everyone else?
Doesn’t Indiana have like one guy on their entire roster right now? Dix would have been a decent get but folks gotta chill out

in the portal era, whether I like a commit depends on the price and depends on the role. I’m sure players have the same factors when evaluating destinations.

If the $$ being reported for Dix was correct, I didn’t love it. Good scorer but minus defender. I think we can get a better player for the $$.

Sounds like we were looking for Sellers as a sixth man type of role, but looks like he’s getting offered a starting role and very well may be getting more $$ for that role that we were willing to pay for a sixth man. Feels very Dante Maddox (albeit he didn’t wind up starting at Xavier). Makes sense for Sellers to pursue that opportunity, and if we don’t see him as a starter, it doesn’t make sense for us to adjust our role/$$ allocation if someone has a bigger role and pot of money to throw at him.

Think we will be fine. Building a roster is allabout dollar allocation, roster fit, etc. vs. spending the most money. Everyone picked IU to win the BIG based on the $$ they spent, nevermind it was all spent on power forwards who couldn’t stretch the floor. Wisconsin was dead in the water after losing Storr and Hepburn and pulled the runner up for BIG POTY off the scrap heap.

Brad has his limitations but he seems to have an eye for talent and roster building. With the resources at his disposal he will put together a good team. Will it be challenging for the BIG title and a long tourney run good? TBD.

By this time last year, we had received a Jake Davis commitment. Tre White followed soon after that. Need to be patient.

Don’t be surprised if more than one player declares for NBA draft and enters transfer portal, in order to maximize all options and leverage. It’s only business.

Agree 100% I believe there is an underlying issue that’s being kept quiet

Like who though? I'm not saying Dix would've been some demigod portal hit... but we keep saying this and don't have any names in return. We need a proven, scoring guard that's a no doubt starter type guy alongside Kylan. (and also no... Storr would not be that. Would like that one as an additional, not as what you'd consider the "marque get")
This was my take yesterday. When you swing and miss, you had better have two more strikes to play with. That doesn't seem to be the case when it comes to shooters.

As much as getting told that we'd be in commitment heaven by today......our team won't be complete until June, like last year. Honestly , I don't think that Z(and Tomi) are a done deal, as much as it was reported and Sarr is DEFINITELY not exactly "just waiting" situation.

Just sit back, wait and hope.

They were the favorite out of the gate, his mom has reportedly been sick and he wanted to be closer to home which is about 1p miles from Creighton. Freeman committing to Creighton sparked a rumor that Dix didnt want to play with him that apparently wasn't true. So everybody assumed Creighton was out of it. Also obviously not true.

And there's a lot of Berkshire Hathaway money floating around Omaha

This is exactly the sort of article that keeps people out of Illinois. It exemplifies bureaucracy for bureaucracy's sake.

#373
Yeah, I'm not completely sold that Illinois has the Brothers Ivisic in the bag yet.
Agree 100%. I don't believe any of it anymore. We've lost 4 from last year's team, we've brought in nobody new and we're already pivoting from the initial plan.

We've lost two guys that we were all ready to get their jerseys ready to Providence and Creighton. One is the mom's fault. I can't wait for the Providence reasoning.

1. This is a dynamic and rapidly changing and inflating system. Where you stand in the pecking order one day is almost certain not to be true the next, and exactly how deep the pockets go isn't known for sure even at one's own school, let alone really knowing about anybody else.

2. That being said I dunno man. KJ, Riley and Tomi will not have been cheap last year. Buying TSJ and CoHawk out of the draft the year before will not have been cheap either. We've flexed quite a bit of muscle in this space.
Just off the top of my head I'd be a bit surprised if we were, on a consistent basis, ahead of Indiana, Kentucky, Arkansas (they didn't bring in Cal to not spend), Duke, UNC, BYU, Texas, Michigan, or Louisville. That's already 9 programs right there.

I think Auburn probably has a healthy budget right now. I'm sure Oregon does as well. Some have suggested Texas A&M may have tons of resources they're willing to spend. Now people are citing Berkshire Hathaway money, which if true are we even ahead of Creighton?

Then there are going to be programs that go for it from time to time (for example, it was hinted by Indy that K-St spent more than us this past season).

It's impossible to say really. But the way this top-10 thing gets thrown around and accepted as fact is baffling. At a minimum, it is deserving of healthy skepticism.
