So is Z Ivicic actually going to commit to Illinois? You would think Illinois fans would get tired of being misled about recruiting by the same people year after year.

Agreed, which is why I'm using Ben's projected minutes next year to judge whether we have a successful offseason or not lol. But it sounds like its not guaranteed he's even back, so prob just too early to think about. The issues with losing players off the roster, then whiffing of options A and possibly B....options C and D move up the food chain. That's how guys like Ben and Jake end up on the roster, playing fairly large roles.
So is Z Ivicic actually going to commit to Illinois?
You just described 0-19. Probably means that to get to 34%, the other games weren't that bad.He was brought in as a 3-pt specialist, was paid handsomely, and shot 34% from three. He had 4 games where he was at least 0-3 from 3. And one game where he was 0-7. Somebody cue Brad's *fart noise*
Agreed. I won't begin to pretend Ben was a huge success but if he's here again next year as a depth piece I won't complain. If he shoots 40%+ he probably makes his way into the 15-20 minute range but if it's another season of up and downs that lead to 34 or below he's probably in the 5-10 minute range.Ragging on a kid who clearly gave 100% in games and in practice and just has physical limitations that limited him at this level is so silly.
I would get so frustrated whenever he tried to back down a defender. He never passed out of it, and I don't remember him ever making a shot with that play. Every time it happened, 100% chance of an awkward shot that wouldn't fall.IMO the 3-pt shooting being 34% isn't the worst thing in the world because he's still stretching the floor. The major issue with Ben was the 2-pt shooting. His overall FG% was 37%. That is abysmal. The next worst FG% for a regular player on our squad was Jake Davis at 41%.
You just described 0-19. Probably means that to get to 34%, the other games weren't that bad.
yep, doing the math that would put him 38-39% in the other 30ish games. You just described 0-19. Probably means that to get to 34%, the other games weren't that bad.
I'm not responding to you specifically here because I don't know your entire stance on this issue, but just generally:You're either a good player or you aren't. With NIL these guys are getting paid LOTS of money. Give me a break with the "stop ragging on the kid" nonsense
Feel like the heat is more on Ben because fans are blaming Ben for Morez leaving. Again, all of this falls back on Underwood. That's why he gets paid the big money, and takes all of the stress of running this NIL roster construction. I think he's worth the money until he proves he can't reload a roster.I'm not responding to you specifically here because I don't know your entire stance on this issue, but just generally:
I do think that if we as fans expect "loyalty" from Illinois players to the school/program, then it probably does make sense that there be some sort of unwritten social contract where we do the best we can to keep the criticism from becoming personal or unduly excessive.
And yes, the NIL added to the mix complicates that, but if we are serious about the whole "famILLy" thing, then I do think there should be some limits on the ragging.
And don't take this to mean that we shouldn't criticize at all, or even think and say that a player's roster spot would be put to better use by a different player - I'm just saying that I think there's a line somewhere, and I try to keep to do my best to keep well clear of it as best I can.
Did you seriously just put Ben in the same sentence with the greatest shooter of all time?Right, and as if going 0-7 in a single game sample means anything... Steph Curry just went 0-7 from 3 earlier this year too lol

I didn't mind the original flurry, but the repetitiveness did get old. Kind of like Mrs. Fernsby.Yours and maybe two other comments were worth reading. The others were pretty poor or worse made me wonder if the writer had both hands on the keyboard when typing.
You would think they’d learn that what they hear on these sites cannot be taken as gospel. It is merely “information” that these “insiders” have heard and they share. You would think Illinois fans would get tired of being misled about recruiting by the same people year after year.
Personally, I have no problem with Hummer on next season's roster. That said, he must shoot 10,000 8 ft. fadeaways with an Ivisic on him until he is making them at a % he missed them last season. He had no problem getting that shot but had a horrendous % of makes. Adding that to his game would be a huge plus for the team. If he can do that and continue his effort to improve aggressive rebounding, better defense, and raise his arc %, he can turn around the viewpoint of Illini fans. He does not seem to be a detriment in the locker room at all and BU certainly thinks he can be that guy off the bench. He was brought in as a 3-pt specialist, was paid handsomely, and shot 34% from three. He had 4 games where he was at least 0-3 from 3. And one game where he was 0-7. Somebody cue Brad's *fart noise*
IF he does come back and plays extended minutes...He won't have a larger role than a bench guy IF he comes back.
What should be learned is that kids are fickle, advisors are generally looking after their own personal interests, and those kids seem to have little regard for the coaches and programs willing to make them millionaires at 20 years old. For certain, too many players and coaches will say anything. Paying a 21 yo kid a million dollars to play for you is mutually exclusive to getting his total attention, passion, and will to win, especially for one year...and that little tidbit of truth is what has ruined college hoops. You would think they’d learn that what they hear on these sites cannot be taken as gospel. It is merely “information” that these “insiders” have heard and they share.
It may ultimately turn out to be good info or bad, but most of the time we don’t know until after a decision has been made.
I’m happy they share the info here, but I’ve been around too long and fooled too many times…learned my lesson long ago.
Take it for what it’s worth and don’t count on anything until the ink is dry.
Have seen this movie to many times to expect a different outcome. I just enjoy the ride and see what we have come Fall. You would think Illinois fans would get tired of being misled about recruiting by the same people year after year.
Come on, nobody would buy that happening. Now Coleman Hawkins being a new assistant coach, that'll get the people going!
I watched every game. I would bet BH was 50% on those back-downs. And when he missed, the shots were typically short, hitting the front of the rim.I would get so frustrated whenever he tried to back down a defender. He never passed out of it, and I don't remember him ever making a shot with that play. Every time it happened, 100% chance of an awkward shot that wouldn't fall.
Is Nolan Traore looking to maybe trying college after a year that saw some struggles? If so, let's get him.I want Andrej Kostic and Dame Sarr
Maybe Josh paid Coleman to sabotage KSU so that Tang would get fired and Brad would take the role, leaving the door open for Sean Miller or Chris Beard. Now he's trying to get him here for another year so Coleman can blow this season and fire Brad.
