Omg, get this garbage out of here.

If Ben Humrichous plays 15 mpg, shoots 48% from the field and 40% from 3 and plays the game like Jack, I’ll buy you your favorite bottle of whisky and send it with a handwritten apology.

Those are Jack's 5th year statistics

He literally shot 14% from 3 the year prior to bringing him back for that 5th year

I just love rehashing this Ben Humrichous stuff and getting to experience everyone trash the kid one more time... lol jeez you guys

He shot us out of some games last year … These 3 really stick out in my mind …

1-9 against NW … Lost in OT
0-7 against Nebraska … Lost in OT
0-6 against MSU … Lost by 15

And he went 0-4 from 3 against Xavier in the tourney …

I don’t think he’s a bad shooter and I’ve seen him make a bunch in practice … He just doesn’t know when to stop shooting when it isn’t his night …
Which unfortunately is most nights.

I question some of the staff decisions as well, but how many freshman get significant minutes from the get go? And especially early, Morez was picking up fouls like crazy.

Unique case. For one thing his shoe deal would swamp what his college was paying him.
Of course it’s a unique case, he was the most hyped recruit since… ever. The fact that he’s a unique case might have had something to do with why I posed the question.

Agree shoe deal could swamp NIL. Most likely case is Nike Schools with a heavy lean toward their top schools. So bidding war between Duke/UNC/UK/Texas/Oregon/Ohio State/Michigan.

But what’s a player that makes you the favorite to win a national championship worth to the booster class at those schools?

Until a player is signed on the dotted line, and even then I don't fully believe (see Johnson, Morez. Wright, Rob), I'm not sure what to believe what one player costs in comparison to another. Maybe Monsanto's rumored price is half of Ben's now, but what happens when say Georgia or Insert Team Here, hops in to the recruitment tomorrow?

I gotta say, I really don't understand what seems to be somewhat personal attacks on Ben, especially at this point in time. It is a little more understandable to me in the heat of the season when he isn't performing up to what his expectations and playing time would warrant, but it almost seems like the guy can't win at this point.

If he is actually going to end up staying, I'm going to be rooting for him to bounce back and have a nicer year, because:
1) At this point I'm presuming he'd be taking a meaningful pay cut (some insider can correct me here if I'm wrong, but I think it was @LvilleILL1 that indicated he MIGHT just get some revenue share dollars at some point if he stays) DESPITE the market value for even role players seeming to ballon again this offseason.
2) ALL of the offseason moves we've made to date will directly affect his potential playing time - he will be competing with Big Z, Mirkovic, AND probably even Ty some for minutes at the 4
3) I've heard nothing but good things about how he conducts himself in the locker room and as a teammate. He got pulled from the starting lineup last year, was constantly criticized, had his minutes significantly reduced as the season went on, has essentially been recruited over at least twice over, and still might stay to have another go? I respect that.
4) And finally, at this point in time, Ben seems to be the target of criticism that should be directed at Brad, if you feel that Ben either shouldn't be on the roster or shouldn't play very much. Again, earlier it made more sense to be frustrated with Ben, but he's more of a known quantity now. Should Ben have taken himself out of games if he missed his first shot or two? Should he have refused to go in when Brad told him to? Should Ben have put himself in the transfer portal just to protect Brad from playing him too many minutes next year?

If you think we'd be better off with someone else like Monsanto, or whoever, fair enough. That could well be true. I'm not here claiming that Ben was good last year. But if Brad has decided that he wants Ben to come back for next year, how is that Ben's fault?

I'm okay with Hum-Brick as a deep bench guy and depth if in dire need. I agree with Indy that he is just not cut out for this level. Had some great moments, but too often was abused or singled-out by opposing offenses and disappeared when we needed him most.

The top of the B1G is getting good and taking shape, we NEED the studs to stay relevant at the level we hold this program to (compete for B1G title, be a Final Four contender). Sarr would be a needle-mover, but they need one more to be at that level.

Thoughts on Humrichous hate:

(1) Expectations were way too high for him coming into the season. Go ahead and search the website for last summer. There are many posts saying Humrichous had NBA potential, perfect replacement for Domask, he would be the second star behind Jock, etc.
(2) He struggled coming to the end of the non-conference schedule and it seemed obvious to everyone but the coaching staff that the rotation needed adjustment. Underwood stuck to his guns, pointed to tough-to-see benefits related to Hummer being out there as justification. Folks started to identify Humrichous as more problem than solution.
(3) Morez left and that seems like at least secondary fallout to choices made on Hummer's playing time.

Ian Jackson at Georgia right now. Illinois hoping to get him on campus next.
So he’s visited St. John’s, Georgia, and who else?

Saw O. Sellers committed to St. John’s.

Ben was 38% from 3 off the bench if I remember correctly. Still think he was playing too many minutes and don't see what he offers that Z/Davis don't already off the bench but 🤷‍♂️

As.long as he's not starting and given 25-30mpg to have the green light to chuck at will and be a turnstile on D again.

I'd love to see some more toughness and athleticism on the team. Absolutely have to get some guys that can get to the rim and finish.

Bingo … Bigger stage … Brighter lights …

He cost us wins … If those 6 games are wins how different does the season look ? It’s obviously not just Ben contributing to wins or losses but if he shot 40% like many on here suggest he can do … I’d be willing to bet half of those at minimum aren’t losses …
To paraphrase Moneyball "If he's a good shooter, then why doesn't he shoot good?"
