what's the word on watkins? louisville and ky were said to be two schools, both their rosters seem set at this point (louisville just got pryor back). florida? us possibly if we miss on stoj?

I don't know what this means? I was referring to how everyday we got told stop worrying he's committed. That seems more and more challenging to believe as each day passes. We all know how the recruiting process works, but this has shades of Demetrius Jackson written on it.
I mean that staff was habitually receiving wrong information, or misinterpreting the information they were receiving. The staff being certain they had the player sewn up was objectively not that conclusive of information. (We hadn't learned that quite yet when DJax happened of course)

BU and staff getting similarly deceived is not totally unprecedented (and clearly has happened here to some degree, even if it has a happy ending), but it's way, way less common.

And even all of THAT said, real over-the-table money, professional agents, and these kids being transfers who have gone through this process before just makes it apples to oranges to compare it to HS recruitments of the old world. It produces similar feelings because we're still Illini fans on this same message board, but the mechanics of it are just not similar.

And they probably won't get both Claude and Watkins I'd imagine. Wonder how much the door is open there, but don't know how much we're involved.

I get that. Do you have any idea what Werner is talking about then?
Without having seen or heard specifically what he said I'd guess the House settlement, which provides for revenue sharing. Revenue sharing doesn't replace NIL, so even with the caps implemented in the revenue sharing system, schools will still be able to work with boosters to get players NIL beyond what the "salary cap" provides.

The House settlement may increase the amount of money players get, or it may keep it the same (and just change the allocation). The one thing it's definitely not going to do is decrease the amount of money players get.

Maybe we should add someone to the staff who has a background in sales. Pretty much standard way of thinking is that if you don't close down the deal and let them walk out you've lost out and your not going to see them again. Maybe we made the best pitch and Andrej commits here but I sure as hell would feel a lot better about it if he wasn't delaying his announcement.

At no time had I heard nor posted that AS was a lock. I repeated that all that was needed after his very enjoyable visit was agreeing to a deal that satisfy all involved. I also stated as the coaches and everyone else involved knew, he would take his other visits and understandably so. I said my gut feeling from all I’ve gathered is that I feel we will have this young man in an ILLINI uniform.
