I think the phrase is,Two birds in the hand are worth one in the bush.
Or something like that.
“Get two birds stoned at once.”
Feel free to fact check that.

It just re-enforces the point that no one hangs banners for pre-season rankings...and The Tournament is still madness.Anyone trying to measure teams at this point, especially placing “Super Team” labels on them, is likely to be extremely wrong.
Look at last year’s preseason AP poll:
Michigan and Arizona “Super Teams” were ranked 7th and 13th
The top 3 (Purdue, Florida, Houston) didn’t even make it past the S16
So if it’s that difficult to know which teams will be dominant and which teams won’t in November, then what sense is there to start assigning Super Team labels in freaking April?
didn't you see it was posted earlier. Billy Donovan has their 8th and 9th spots locked up. they goodBut who is Floridas 9th man???? Once fland blows out his knee they are probably a 9 seed unless they convince Blackwell to back him up for 10 mpg
What happens when haugh regresses like TKR and nobody else on their roster gets better over an entire summer???
I have a high level of confidence that a good portion of the people on here WILL NOT understand this. Haha!People in here need to understand that the talent across college basketball next year is not going to be the same as this year. There is not going to be an Arizona or Michigan like superteam, the transfers aren't as good overall, and the recruits aren't as high end compared to last year in terms of the elites.
Illinois has one of the four or five best rosters is the country. Could they push and add another stud? Sure, but it's not that easy. There are agents and other factors involved with that. I still stand by my thinking that they add someone over the next few months.
There are a ton of teams that have half a roster filled out with not a lot of options left, including blue bloods. It's okay to want more, but we are set to contend for a national championship next year. Have some faith in the evaluations that the staff made in Coleman and Morillo.
I'm just waiting for the annual "since we're gonna go 10 deep in the rotation, Brad should just switch out all 5 hockey-line style" comments![]()
Anyone want to take a stab at the minute distribution / projected stat lines![]()
A 5-star recruit coming in and contributing right away is a far cry from Wagler’s performance this year on a lowly 3-star rating. That said, if Coleman were to be 90% of Wagler, I think everybody would be surprised. Wagler is the best freshman in Illinois history, regardless of HS ranking, so that’s a very high bar to place on an incoming freshman.Hope Coleman can transition from a small private school in St. Louis County, MO to the BIG. The change in completion will be a huge change for him. Being Wagler 2.0 would be like finding 2 needles in 2 haystacks or discovering 2 matching snowflakes. Sure hope he is IT. Wagler has certainly spoiled us.
It's perfect, everyone plays 20 mpg.I'm just waiting for the annual "since we're gonna go 10 deep in the rotation, Brad should just switch out all 5 hockey-line style" comments
Arizona’s 5th leading scoring Kharchenkov was a freshman 4 star recruit. Michigan’s 5th leading scorer was a freshman ranked 21st. Our leading scorer was a freshman ranked 150th.I'm not concerned about the eighth option, and while I wouldn't use the word "crazy", I would say it's "risky" to expect a #27 recruit to be our fifth option because not many freshman around #27 were good enough to be the fifth option on a really good team last year. Arizona, UConn, and Florida all had guys in this range, and they were #8-9 in minutes played. That's saying nothing about Coleman himself- he might be great and people said much worse things about Keaton last year. It's just my perspective on roster risk.
Bringing in a star (or anyone meaningfully better than Jake) and planning for Jake & Coleman to come off the bench would be an upgrade (at least regarding risk; nothing is guaranteed). Without that, Jake is our "floor" if Coleman needs more time to adjust. And that's not a bad option, but it just adds more pressure for our top four to take bigger steps forward if we want to reach another level.
If we tried and/or are trying to get such a player, then it seems like the staff at least agrees that there's room for an upgrade. If they can't find the right player who wants to come here, that's a bummer, but it doesn't mean wanting more is crazy either.
If it works for Grinnel College it HAS to work here. Now were getting into some good offense! (really hope the /s isn't needed here)It's perfect, everyone plays 20 mpg.
What are "real minutes"?The post just says lower his minutes. Davis counts. If Morillo counts this year Davis counts last year.
Davis proved he could be playable on the 25 team. Brown hasn’t proven that. Outside of Wagler - which will never happen again - who’s the last freshmen outside the top 100 to get real minutes here? We saw it with Lee, it ain’t easy (and quite the gamble to be counting on it).
Rage bait.Question for one of the "insiders". Why would the staff not want to recruit to be the team to beat instead of just another contender?
but he doesnt play freshmanIt's perfect, everyone plays 20 mpg.
The key word there is expect. Right now we dont have a strong backup option if Coleman doesn't live up to lofty expectations. I would guess if he is underwhelming, dre goes to the 2 and davis the 3. We aren't hoping he can come in and provide quality bench minutes as a 6th man. We are putting expectations on him to be a star on a championship team.Arizona’s 5th leading scoring Kharchenkov was a freshman 4 star recruit. Michigan’s 5th leading scorer was a freshman ranked 21st. Our leading scorer was a freshman ranked 150th.
2000/1: Coleman Hawkins- who’s the last freshmen outside the top 100 to get real minutes here?
For much of last year's cycle, I was consistently talking people off the ledge by saying, hey, we have two good freshmen coming in, too, that will get a good amount of minutes. The same is true this year. And that's before we even talk about Ethan Brown. What are "real minutes"?
Coleman Hawkins got about 6 min a game in 20-21. (167)
Goode snuck in at #98, and played 9 minutes a game.
DGL got about 7 mpg. (#148)
With a kid like Lee, I'm just not sure what his elite skill is...
With Brown, you can watch about 5 seconds of tape and see what his elite skill is.
the only argument against is that he didn't see an uptick when guys were out. That's not *that* uncommon though, if you know an absence is temporary, you just tighten it up with the permanent players rather than try and integrate a new guy into the mix and possibly mess up the chemistry.I think some feel there's an imaginary line between "playable" and "unplayable". As if after Z, Drej, and Ben there was no one who was capable to get on the court.
I think Brandon Lee was absolutely capable to give you minutes, but Brad has an 8-man rotation, and outside of foul trouble/injury, that's what he's gonna stick with.
I don't even remember where that narrative started because it's never even been remotely true
I’m old enough to remember when Andrej was “unplayable.”I think some feel there's an imaginary line between "playable" and "unplayable". As if after Z, Drej, and Ben there was no one who was capable to get on the court.

Lee wasn't good enough to get in when he was the number 2 guard on the team and we only had 6 guys playing and kept turning the ball over because we didn't have guard play. He was expected pre season to be able to give at least some quality minutes. He wasn't.I think some feel there's an imaginary line between "playable" and "unplayable". As if after Z, Drej, and Ben there was no one who was capable to get on the court.

But I thought Blackwell wanted to play for a winner?UCLA and Louisville put all their eggs into the Blackwell basket.
They are in deep trouble now, exactly why Illinois pursued and closed on Vaaks and QC.
