Indiana 23, Illinois 20 Postgame

Huge punch to just below the belt!! Just cannot lose this game like we did. 4th and goal and you don't kick the FG is just wrong. If you must go for the TD, roll out and toss a floater to a tight end---Indigneana was going to clog the middle, so just don't go there---but no, that's where we went---OOF.
Coaches, clean up the taunting and celebration penalties!! Lastly, tear the prevent defense pages out of the playbook.

I am not one to blame the officiating and we had other issues tonight which could have swung the result.. We have had some games, FB/BB where a call or two were cringe worthy. Generally, these offset calls we get. I can't even say for sure there weren't calls that should have gone IU's way, but as to HORRIFICALLY BAD calls, the non-roughing the QB call and the personal flop call were embarrassingly bad. I know that there are post game referee calls in the pros, I wish there were the same now in college football.

Dear BIG10, please try and explain these. I would bet you cant with a straight face, lol.

QB position---DeVito is a competitor. He has a good sense of the pocket and and when to take off. He was off a bit at times and had a number of throws that were caught and dropped but thrown a bit behind the receiver. Not a bad game but a blah game, moved the chains a bunch but didn't translate into points.

WR position- --IW is an incredible athlete. He just needs the ball in his hands. He needs to slow down and make the catch first. Had a few bobbles both weeks now. Little baffled that we went away from Bryant(can throw in Hightower if want). Good size and looked open a few times. Beatty needs to see more action as well. More threats on the field and getting IW the ball becomes easier.

RB---Not much to say about Chase Brown. Elite RB who just has great insticts. I only have one beef with the running game. McCray is out and we need more production behind Brown. BB knows the team, JMO but I would like to see Aidan Laughery be RB #3 on the depth chart. Have no problem with Love or Hayden getting some touches but I just don't see a consistent "it" factor in either one of them.

Defense----Got smoked for 3 big plays in the first half. Two bad punts and turnovers hurt us. Settled down in 2nd half and looked incredible until that last prevent D drive. Indiana is a one trick pony and we couldn't stop them. Bazelak threw for 330 yards against us and hit some wide open receivers.

I thought our playcalling was a little suspect at times in the 2nd half. Hard to do but Indiana was trying to contain Brown and IW in the 2nd half. I want the ball in Brown and IW hands the most but I could almost predict what they were going to call just from the sets I saw. If I can see it than Indiana could as well. I have no problem with the D playcalling until the end. I know you have to change it up a bit on last drive but if they are going to score, play less prevent and if they score over the top on you than so be it and you have more time for the offense with 2 timeouts left.

Illinois started last season 1-4 last season and finished 5-7. This was a tough game to give away but am here for the long run. Have a big chore next game against Virginia and Brennan Armstrong. Amazing gunslinger who I am going to block out of my head until closer to game time.

Sorry ladies and gents but tell me how this game is not fixed.......never believed in that but when u blatantly watch replay turn a TD into a incomplete pass

And many other calls...this reeeeeekkksss
Not fixed but we don’t matter enough to overturn a call. I’m guessing there is some negative incentive to the ref that leads to this outcome.

Since I’m in a bad mood I might as well get it off my chest. I’m glad the defense was fired up and having fun, but I’m already tired of guys yapping and then letting the other team catch a 30 yard pass the next play. I’m guessing there will be some taunting flags if they don’t dial it back a bit.
Was this Witherspoon? I said to the group I was watching the game with after Witherspoon made a nice play (not a great play, just a play he should make) that I wish he wasn’t yapping and posing cuz it is gonna come back to haunt him. Next play, like you said, same guy caught a 25-30 yard pass with Witherspoon “covering” him.

The season is long, but I'm not going out of my way to watch any more games this year. I've wasted way too many years watching the same rerun year after year. Illinois football has always been just something to keep me mildly entertained until basketball season. Wish it wasn't that ways, but it's been decades of the same product.

Couple of questions. Why were we snapping the ball with 15 seconds left on the clock on our offensive possession which gave Indiana 2 minutes plus to make their comeback? Why d8d the officials pick up theflag on the play where we had 16 players onthefield?
Think the refs negated that play due to them not allowing Illinois sufficient time to complete second wave of substitutions by Indiana.

Martin O'donnell said it best when he said Illinois is doing everything we can to lose this game........

Not taking a FG instead going on 4th and 1 looks pretty bad now....

Chase Brown with 199 yards rushing.........

IW with 119 yards receiving..............

AND WE STILL LOST...........

I will be 420'ing till the wee morning hours.......................

HOW IN THE F**K DID WE LOSE THIS GAME.......

Yeah , I know.............dropped passes , costly penalties and inept officiating..........The awful call on the apparent TD reception by Hightower in the first half.....

It was just said on the radio we shot ourselves in the foot .......Look's to me like we blew our head off..................

SMMFH.....................

I don’t blame the coaches. The players were terrible with execution
Players certainly messed up plenty, but I don't want to hear about how competent and amazing this staff is after some of those decisions. Plenty of blame to go all around for this one. Gonna be hard to commit 4 hours to watch a game each week, let alone venture to the stadium if this is the level of competence displayed.

How is it every time we have to go to an Adidas school we drop the bag. I'm pretty sure that in both basketball and football we should have put in an exemption that we can use different balls, at least on game weeks. They are similar balls but not the same, and it showed with some of those incompletions.
