Jordan Goodwin commits to SLU

Definitely don't understand this one.. hiring the aau coach really turned the tide. Try to get a big, blitz Frazier next week, see whats up with Eastern & hopefully get a visit from scruggs. If they doesn't commit roll it over to 18'. Do not.. I repeat do not accept another small forward.

SLU fan here and I promise I come in peace...

Sounds like Ford went full-court press on Goodwin over the last month and then getting Corey Tate as an assistant was massive. Ford also told Goodwin he could play PG at SLU and that Goodwin reminded Ford of Marcus Smart. He told Goodwin that being a PG was his route to the NBA. That apparently sat EXTREMELY well with Goodwin as no other coach had brought that up.

That said, I've seen Goodwin play more than a dozen times and I don't think he's PG material. Definitely a better chance in the A10 than the Big 10, but I still don't see it. But again, that's how recruiting works. You tell a guy what he wants to hear and you deal with the potential problem once they get there. It sucks, but everyone does it.

I'm a big time Illini fan and always will be. SLU has been and always will be my first team but I was excited to see Jordan deciding between my two programs. Yes, I know I should just pick one team but I just can't. Jordan would have done well at Illinois. I think he'll be a star at SLU. You guys have a stacked recruiting class as it is. It'll be fun to see his career play out. Hopefully we meet in the NCAA's soon.

Bummer for us, but good for him. We got Tilmon, Williams, and Pickett. Let's get Frazier next.

I wish him the same amount of luck as I would wish the backup punter for Jacksonville State, or the starting small forward for Monmouth. I don't wish him good luck - that is reserved for players on my team, and I don't wish him bad luck - that is reserved for IU and Mizzou.

and IOWA

At the end of the day, his heart was here, but he needed to take care of his family. If you remove bball and our crazy fandom from the equation, it makes sense. Coulda handled it better, but he was in no position to negotiate his terms, so to speak. In the end, it was family first.

Well that's cryptic

This is the unfortunate reality of big time recruiting in the age of shoe contracts and TV deals. There are back channels that allow money to flow without being traceable. Literally everyone cheats - it's just matter of degrees and budgets. If you think otherwise, you're naive. College basketball is a billion-dollar industry and the assets in the equation are generally poor inner city teenagers. Is what it is.

Yeah, you can't argue against family. And SLU is a good school. But saying he could have handled it better is putting it mildly.

I'm actually not suprised that he is committing elsewhere. I love his game, but we are so stacked at wings right now, and SLU offered something we weren't.

He said in a video that he was going to make the decision around his Birthday, now he commits, what was the hurry in committing to SLU?, something just does not smell right, but not a big deal losing him, plenty more just as good or better fish in the pond.

In the article he also says " when Coach Tate got a job over there that changed a lot" which shouldn't be surprising. The timing of the hire by Ford was not a coincidence.

Sounds like he definitely wanted to go somewhere he would be "the man" on day 1.

That wasn't UI. Best of luck, kid.
