That was a far better use of time.

Bet if we could talk Giorgi into some support position at Illinois...that could help retention chances of Kofi.

Saw this headline on ESPN just now and I momentarily froze up, lol

lol...If Kofi had these stats he'd be a lottery pick:
"In 90 games with the Pride, Coburn shot 40.3 percent from beyond the arc and 81.0 percent from the free-throw line. His 170 made 3-pointers are 10th in Hofstra history."

Sturdy said on his podcast that Illinois has told Kofi between 500k and 1 M in NIL money is what he should expect and they have the research to back it up. That’s great unless other schools with no research are telling him 2 M. I’ve no idea what the face of college basketball is worth but it’s a lot.

North Carolina gave a number over 1M to Garcia...who will be option 4-5 on NC.

We are talking Kofi who was an AA, has an awesome personality and following already and will be the face of college basketball.

Not good.

Wish I could just fast forward 5 years and see what this looks like. If someone like Kofi could be the face of college basketball and sign some big deals, would companies try to retain him as long as he’s successful? Seems possible and maybe likely. Would that dilute the money pool? No idea.

The other side of fast forwarding is players will most certainly be getting paid at that point and that could change things yet again.

The only response I suppose would be that he will earn as much here as anywhere no matter what he’s being told is possible. And in this case I think that’s probably true. He’s a national brand.

I realize this comment is simplistic. But just have Kofi tell us what he wants and then go get it for him. As I’ve said previously I can’t believe any program has more resources than we do. Let’s get this all out there.

It be great if he said I want $2M. The problem is he’s probably saying “as much as I can get,” so he doesn’t prematurely cap himself.

The thing with NIL is you've got this summer to float whatever number you want. Might as well tell Kofi he'll make a billion. Who could possibly prove you are right or wrong?

I know I am "old school", and I like telling the truth and delivering. We have helped a 4 star recruit become a player that is highly coveted, we AC that can get him the ball, we have Fletch to continue to develop his body, and I am sure we will help develop the skills the NBA is looking for along with NIL $$$.

Others will promise more. But if this is not enough, let him go. We need to take the high road.

IMO, he is a level headed kid and he will stay.

has anyone heard of a timeframe for his announcement. Seems he would want some type of countdown to build on.

He said he wants to take visits first. I haven't heard anything about that, so I'm not sure there'd be a timeline yet. He did say quick turn around, but I think we've learned our lesson here with ambiguous statements like that.

This is where the transfer portal and recruiting rules confuse me. Technically coaches are not allowed to talk to recruits right now so how could he go on visits? I mean sure he could go walk around campus but I don’t think that’s what he means when he said he wants to visit.

Could also just be a way to deflect. He may know exactly where he wants to end up but doesn't want to telegraph his move.

Honestly there is no way you can accurately predict the NIL money. There is no way to predict how the season will play out... But imagine the duo of Curbelo and Kofi. 2 great personalities, one Puerto Rican and the other Jamaican. Living the American basketball dream. It is not hard to imagine how that can play out to NIL riches, from an international perspective. These are rich story lines. The brand at Kentucky is Kentucky. This shouldn't be about a blue blood vs a non blue blood. That's old school thinking and this is a new era.

There will be a lot of firsts when it comes to transfers and recruiting in this new NIL environment. Kofi just happens to be in the position to change the way players handle their business with the new rules. My guess is we’ll see this happen more frequently over the next few years. it will be a crazy ride for college basketball while the NIL works itself out.
