Moleface era? I know your pain.
Moeller for me too.

But then I got to participate in the standing ovation in Game #1 the following season ---- a salute following that first play from scrimmage of the Mike White era ---- an incomplete bomb down the middle of the field. A clear sign of great things to come!

BTW, the top conference coaching records in the history of Illinois football to this point: 1. Mackovic 2. White. Eleven consecutive years of pretty entertaining football!!!

Shannon is basically saying Whitman met with Lovie in a GMC Yukon on the runway at Tampa International Airport. Whitman landed at 10:28 and took off at 11:09. Shannon also reported that the search committee interviewed Kelly Mehrtens :tsk::tsk::tsk:

Haha, it's amazing that Shannon has learned how to read these boards and learn how to use Flightaware. So much info off of these boards end up in the main stream press.

What are you saying happened in that 30 minutes? Pickup? or Dropoff? of Something else?

Well Bob Asmussen was creeping on Whitman at Flightstar and Lovie wasn't on the flight home so you can cross off Pickup. You don't meet with a potential head coach of your program on a runway for 20 minutes so it's either a drop off or something else.

I am confused. Didn't you say he is in Champaign?

Plane arrived back in Champaign from Tampa. 2 guys got off the plane but that doesn't mean someone else stayed on to stay out of sight...hint,hint

Asmussen actually went out to Willard and caught Whitman by surprise when he returned.:)

You give too much credit to the Champaign press. They're not reasonable, they're soft. Chicago is a bit harsh, but not so much as Champaign is soft.

Which college town press is hard on its home team?

Austin, for one. I went there for grad school. The press was more then fair during the decline of the Mac Brown era.

Champaign
Just sliding this in here to make this week even better. Papa Del's will be open this weekend. Hopefully with Lovie, two great new beginnings in Champaign.

Typically with "bigger" programs, the media isn't as kind. Look at Michigan under Hoke.

That being said, the Illini media is definitely above average when it comes to "softness." They don't bring out the knives until the writing's on the wall, and they feel like it's "safe" to do so.

Players have to be ecstatic.

The Tampa players including our own Akeem Spence were none too pleased when Lovie was let go
