The reactions to this game are simply insane. “The coaches stink!” “Curbelo stinks!” “We will be lucky to make the tournament!”
No. No. No.
it’s an early season game vs an opponent with a coach who has made a career out of teams creating turnovers. Without our potential POY center. On the road. And our pg tried to do too much and struggled. How is this so shocking?
The only problem I see with Curbelo is he was trying too hard. He wasn’t letting the game come to him, he wanted to make something happened. When he made a mistake he wanted to make up for it, but it just wasn’t working that night. That’s the exact mentality that makes him great…but can also lead to an early season game like this when you factor in those other conditions. He’s good, and we are lucky to have him.
I do think it wouldn’t have been a bad idea for the coaches to get him out for a little bit to get him focused on what he should be doing. I would assume the only reason they didn’t is because they have so much confidence in him. Now if they were calling for stuff that he was ignoring then that’s on them. But Underwood has us in a good spot and this one game doesn’t change that.
If we were a team at full strength filled with all American seniors this loss would be worse. We are a team with young guys and a couple guys out so we are figuring it out still. Any coach will tell you a loss like this early in the season can do way more to help than it hurts in the long run.
