Why not go to a zone in the second half?! They were driving and dishing for dunks at will.
Our players were too soft, not athletic enough, outhustled and didn’t hit threes the way they had to against a very good team.
Our coaches didn’t make changes. Ridiculous.
Seen that movie before.

This is really true honestly. And it’s not just a talk point — there’s some instances where if he just goes down… he’ll get the whistles others get.
He goes down more than you realize and doesn’t get the calls. Brad has been pissed about it all year.

I understand everyone wants to give Andrej his walking papers given his last couple of games. But we desperately need his athleticism against the top level teams. If we don’t figure out how to get good Andrej back going again we can forget about winning a second weekend game (or maybe even getting to the second weekend).

DGL wasn’t coming back as a back up. Only so much you can do to keep guys.
I understand, just saying, we need a player of his caliber who has heart/grit/determination. Not sure that Petrovic has those intangibles if he cannot even crack the rotation

Just stop 🤣 we're not falling to a 6 seed. Dumbest thing I've heard or read this season.

Our frontline was outclassed by the best one in college basketball with 3 future 1st rounders

Illini were outclassed this season by the future NCAA football champ. Very possible the basketball team just suffered the same fate

IMO had we won the UCLA game the narratives would be a lot different. Regardless of this result.

The play at the end along with the Coleman Hawkins Penn state foul are the two worst single plays of the underwood tenure (I’d put the Tennessee play a tier below since it was tied).
Sure, but we didn't- we blew a 23 point lead and set an ncaa record for losing a lead by a top 10 team. Then just got boat raced at home by Michigan... Things aren't good right now.

Last year Tre White shot 50% from the field and 33% from 3. This year he is over 40% from 3. Last year against a very good Michigan team Tre had 19 points and eleven rebounds. We miss him, we miss him a lot.
I'll beg to differ on the miss part. I don't think he is missed much. Again, I think you're going off some recency bias here. Anyways, last year's Michigan team and this year's Michigan team are two different teams. Did you forget when Tre was in the doghouse in the latter part of the season? We have good quality players. Tre White is not the difference between a Sweet 16 team and a Final 4 team. He is nowhere near the missing link. He's just another role player IMO who can have good games here and there

I miss Juan Howard

I hear ya! Always makes me nuts when peeps on these boards want coaches like him gone . I was hoping he had enough success to keep him around. Dusty is gonna dominate this conference.

This game took a lot of confidence away I had about this team. I realize Michigan is really good but we got outclassed, outhustled, out eveything'd. I don't know what to think about this team going forward but I don't feel great about it right now.
Mine was gone after UCLA. Brads flaws have been exposed again. I was on a trip and didn’t watch or listen to any of it tonight. Really had no interest cause I knew what was coming.

What’s the narrative ???

2-4 in our last 6 ??? Getting out 🍑 handed to us on our f’ing home court ??? No toughness … Getting blasted on the glass …

It’s unacceptable !!!!!!! Losing is unacceptable !!!!!

If you want to write some other narrative about how great losing is … That’s on you man …
Jeez alright. Nobody likes losing, but that’s nature of this sport. Every power conference team loses.

Was the losing just more acceptable bc it was Trent and DW and it was 4 years in the past? Thats the point. Your argument is we need guys like that but they got blown out by worse teams and in worse moments, while hanging banners with worse records.

I agree 2-4 is unacceptable, but when 3 of those losses are OT and another against a team clearly a tier above us I can accept it as long as March we get to where we should which is the Sweet 16.

Look. Tonight is the night of all nights to rant and be very disappointed.

But we ain’t dropping to a 6 seed. We do t need to be hyperbolic
I'm at rock bottom and I agree with you lol. We are pretty much locked at a 3 seed unless something catastrophic happens. Problem is we were in a position to almost guarantee a 2 seed had we beat UCLA.

#288
There’s some logic to, just get it in bounds and run your offense when you score like we have.

That being said, I hope we have something in our back pocket come March because somebody is gonna send an off ball defender to get one of those lobs in bounds.
Don’t count on it. Brad hasn’t drawn up a good inbound play in 9 effin years. Why start now.

Agreed. I think a number of people on here are happy to get to the 2nd weekend… I am not happy with that. I want to see another final 4 at the very least and we don’t have the front court players to accomplish that this year. We haven’t had those type of front court athletes in a few years. Our offense is reliant on our bigs hitting 3’s. They play away from the basket. I would like to see players who can score down low when we need a basket.

Kylan has to stop with the quick threes- teams are giving that to him, but it’s killing us- just drive the ball, he’s so effective when he gets in the paint

It’s insanity for him to be shooting threes with no one else touching the ball. Andrej seems lost out there

We were very uncharacteristic tonight in a lot of ways and didn’t look like the same team- credit Michigan, maybe picking up full court the whole game had something to do with it, but we didn’t play our game at all

Eff it you're right. We need to go hire a real coach who can instill toughness and get us to a 2nd weekend. We should go out and hire this guy:

I’m fighting the pessimist coming out of me, but I feel this team’s ceiling is the sweet 16 and that’s it. I hope I’m wrong, but it seems like they peaked during their long winning streak.
I said it before and I’ll say it again - there’s very similar vibes here to the ‘24 season…lost to a stinky Penn State team the same night as our recent UCLA loss and then went on to lose to a better Purdue team at home. People rightfully had the same questions about our defense and toughness going into postseason play. Let’s see what happens

We’re not locked into a 3 seed. Losing this game tonight doesn’t change our seeding and there’s still games left to play for all teams in contention for a 2 seed to win or lose.

Pretty frustrated BU let Morez get away. The one thing that really drives me crazy with BU is how he allots playing time, doesn't rest players and doesn't develop a deep bench. It's how we look great for 75% of the season and are worn out by March. His handling of Tre White and Morez Johnson and their playing time was poor imo. I still love BU and wouldn't trade him for almost any coach but games like this highlight all of his weaknesses all at once.

I think there are positive aspects to our performance except for a stretch in the second half where the wheels came off. Both Michigan and Illinois had several turnovers that they wouldn't have had against lesser competition. Thought we benefitted from the officiating for once -- lots of uncalled fouls on our guys. We control a lot of games with our height and Michigan is tall and athletic so that advantage was totally gone. I'm not that worried except for our team being worn out because of BU's short bench, injuries and BU's fear of taking certain players off the floor even up or down 20+ points. The BTT + NCAAs is a lot of basketball on a tired team. We'll see if we blow out a team and Keaton still plays 36 minutes.

Other random thoughts:

- Boswell was great on his drives and defense but had some terrible passes and shooting tonight.
- Andrej where r u
- Keaton had what seemed like a quiet 23 point performance. I was really surprised to see he had 20 points at one point
- Michigan had two guards in foul trouble in the first half and didn't miss a beat. They are really deep.
- Mara was great
- Michigan played with a swagger that I'm envious of.
- We have 4 players who are crafty around the rim in theory (boswell, stojakovic, wagler and mirkovic) and 3/4 of them got shut down
- can Jake become our shooting coach? His stroke is so pure.

IMO … Two simple tweaks get us there …

Tre White type over AS …

Proven veteran guard over Petro …
Next season wishlist:
Let AS walk
Elite veteran guard
Elite wing
Vet guard off bench
Retain Mirk
Get a tougher center
Anything else?

He really didn't. He was 5 of 15 last game and 7 of 17 this game with 4 turnovers. That's inefficient. On top of that, he was their target at who to go at defensively. He got bullied.
FGM/FGA isn't the best way to look at this though. His TS% was 57%, and while his AST/TO weren't good, he got 3 offensive rebounds and 2 steals, and a BPM of +10.7. His season avg for TS% is 61.7% and BPM is +11.8. He was just under those against the toughest defense we've faced.

I’ll say one last thing. I’m shocked the amount of people that say Michigan is the better team, okay maybe they are but not by this much. We got blown out at home, it wasn’t even close. We played AWFUL on both ends of the floor. You have to be able to win these types of games in order to get to the final game of the season and as of now we don’t look the part. We rolled over hard. Not one player played hard, zero leadership, zero energy. Underwood sat on the bench and pouted and made zero changes. I’m just not good with that, I’m tired of hearing credit to the other team. Now this team is going to learn a lesson from this? It’s the end of the season, lessons should be learned. The lesson was supposed to be learned from the ucla game. I had high hopes for this team and still do but come on.

2-4?? With a team that other coaches and media saying can win it all? That’s COACHING. Have your players ready to play.
