Juwan should face a multiple game suspension.

This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

Alan Griffin was suspended 2 games when he stepped on a Purdue player.

This is much worse.
Gard should never have grabbed him. If Howard gets suspended, Gard needs to be suspended just as much.

Howard hit someone. Placing your hand on someone to get their attention is not the same as slapping someone in the face.
I imagine Gard will get a (shorter) suspension too, but I agree - Howard giving the Stockton Slap to that assistant was a pretty big escalation to what was otherwise two jackasses posturing at that point.

You should watch again more closely. Gard simply put his hand on Howard's arm to speak with him.......extremely common with coaches in handshake lines. Howard is the one who grabs Gard by the shirt. Gard doesn't "grab" Howard at any point.

Get Howard under control?! Gard grabbed Howard's shirt with both hands, to stop him from walking by him. Many here are conveniently not seeing that. And the media is also ignoring it. I wonder why?
Howard tried to make a smarmy comment. Gard put his hands on his chest and arm to stop him and continue the conversation. Howard then fisted his hand into his shirt and hit Gard in the nose with his finger.

Gard released him the minute he said, "Don't f***ing touch me."

If I recall my one ill-fated year of law school correctly, that's enough to merit a retreat and torpedo any argument of self-defense. Not to mention Howard hit an assistant, not Gard. That's definitely out of line if his argument is self-defense considering the assistant didn't do anything to him that we can see on camera, and there were several people between the two.

In short, Howard needs to talk a long walk off a short pier with that argument. So does anyone who supports him in this instance.

Can you please screen shot any point in the video where Gard grabs Howard with both hands? It simply doesn't happen.

Just want to point out that twice in the past week, we have had a game won and done it as classy as possible. At IU, we literally took a shot clock violation and handed them the ball. Against MSU, neither Curbelo nor Da'Monte were interested in a big last second dunk as an exclamation point. After both games, Underwood and co. were nothing but classy in the press conferences.

Super thankful for the staff and leadership we have at Illinois.
But WI calls a timeout with a big lead and 15 seconds left in the game.

Well th all due respect KevinC. Coach Howard is a big string man. Coach Gaurd didn't grab him with any force other than to shake hands and talk. He is old and can't stop Juwan from going anywhere he wanted to. There is no excuse for coach Howard's behavior. If a professor at U of M did that to a peer he would be fired. Howrads won't be.
That's in spite if absolutely no remorse on coach Howard's part this far. I'm sure he will be told to apologize if he wants his job but that will have no merit. If a player did that in a bar they would be arrested and he should be too. Diabte was throw blows too , Michigan us lucky there are no arrests thus far

Gard explained why in his press conference. He had all of his bench players in and was using it as a teaching moment to break a press and reset the 10 second timer to get across half court. That's reasonable. A coach isn't there just to coach the starting five after all.

I agree with this. I’ve watched the video in slow motion 20 times. Gard was not aggressive. Yes he touched him as in “Hold up, Iet me explain.”Howard was very aggressive in grabbing Gard by the shirt and putting his finger in his face. To say otherwise is just factually incorrect.

No idea how the punishment will come down, but probably few will be happy is my prediction.

That sounds like Michigan will yield to the B10 office for punishment....not sure but I think if I'm Michigan I'd dole out punishment to coach and players .....let the B10 do what they want to do....If I'm Michigan AD, Chancellor or President we're getting out in front of this and taking care of business
Pretty bad look for the school, IMO. If you're trying to position your institution as a place for developing leaders, you step in front and do the right thing immediately. I'll concede that it's a very common (and effective) political/PR move to let things quiet down and pass-the-buck, but I still think it's hella weak.

I will say there should be suspensions on Wisconsin side too. I don’t believe Gard did anything wrong. I’m not sure who’s who with some of the people not in uniform pushing and shoving. Clearly there was at least one Wisconsin player involved, probably several.

Think I’ll leave this conversation and wait for cooler heads to discuss it at a later time.

But MI keeps starters in against backups and walk-ons pressing them with 15 seconds left.

It goes both ways and the second Coward did that he can't then complain when the opposing coach keeps you know.. coaching.

You’re right. He does grab him and stops him to address Howard’s comment of “I’ll f’ing remember that.” Howard then sticks his finger in his face and yells 3x “don’t f’ing touch me.” Gard let’s go after the first time he yells that. The two are separated and the incident seems to be settling down. Howard then single handedly reignites the situation by throwing a hand at a completely different person when he should have been walking away. He acts like a drunk college kid in a bar who didn’t like someone getting in his space and suddenly wants to act like a tough guy and fight.

are people on this board really going to defend Howard for swinging at a coach and starting a brawl because Gard put his hands on him? What world are you leaving on? Gard absolutely touched him and is jerky but throwing hands as a coach in this day and age is so far over the top. Also, Howard is running bush league plays at the end of the game and get infuriated by a coach calling time out? when you are fouling and full court pressing down a ton with seconds to play? bush league all around.
