NIL great for the stars but not so much the rest of the guys busting their butt.No an education is not enough when they are working a full time job and making money for the school on top of classes.

Ummm…the NCAA didn’t want this. They did their best to keep the worms inside the can. I believe your frustrations are misplaced, friend.NCAA has opened a can of worms. $$$ will ruin college sports. It's not fun anymore...pay for play. An education is no longer enough!? Thank God for high school hoops!
Oh to have it so rough, poor things. Welcome to the real world! No an education is not enough when they are working a full time job and making money for the school on top of classes.
This is a false equivalency. I worked all through college. It was kept to 20 hours a week, not the 40+ these student athletes need to do, and the university wasn't making hundreds of millions of dollars off me while hammering home that my reputation was the school's and that putting a toe out of line would irreparably harm both. This is nowhere near a real world working situation, and I say that as a grown woman with a career.Oh to have it so rough, poor things. Welcome to the real world!
Don't be silly. It's always been pay for play, they've just changed the currency.NCAA has opened a can of worms. $$$ will ruin college sports. It's not fun anymore...pay for play. An education is no longer enough!? Thank God for high school hoops!
And does this change anything? The stars were always the ones that got 'illegal' benefits before. The 'rest of the guys busting their butt' are still getting the highly valued education.NIL great for the stars but not so much the rest of the guys busting their butt.
This is such a silly statement. If it were the 'real world' it'd be a free market where they could get commensurate value for their work. The NCAA the last 50+ years ain't that.Oh to have it so rough, poor things. Welcome to the real world!
Ok. But that doesn't change their contribution to the sale. At a minimum, their name added additional value, otherwise the school/corporation wouldn't have spent additional money to add the letters to the back.Player can always sign jerseys to make money off them.
Chaos is right. Illinois likes to think since we passed a law, we have an advantage. I’m not sure that’s the case at all. In states without a NIL law, schools are free to make their own rules as long as they are not prohibited by another existing law. For example, I believe Illinois law prevents student athlete promotion of alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis. There may be more. If a player is of legal age in say Kentucky, that’s obviously a huge pool of money they may have access to unless there is another law prohibiting it.Another discussion. Finebaum saying the NCAA didn't prepare, and the result is chaos. Have to agree. Espn
Schools don't make 'hundreds of millions of dollars' off of athletics, either. In fact, the vast majority lose money. Per the NCAA only 25 programs finished in the black in 2018-19: https://www.ncaa.org/about/resource...,$18.8 billion was spent on athletics in 2019.This is a false equivalency. What major universities and the NCAA do regarding athletics exploits the work of student athletes plain and simple. It's about time they get to make some money off their work.
It's just a tad ironic that alcohol is included on the prohibited list since at Illinois (at least) the athletic department is now making money selling alcohol at some athletic events. That isn't to mention that the state makes millions taxing the sale of all three prohibited substances.Chaos is right. Illinois likes to think since we passed a law, we have an advantage. We don't agree on this. I used hyberbole, but when millions are made off an athlete's talent and they only see a few tens of thousands a year in the form of tuition, I call that exploitative. Even if the athletic department ends the year in the red.Schools don't make 'hundreds of millions of dollars' off of athletics, either. In fact, the vast majority lose money. Illinois wasn't among those 25. In fact, our athletic department has finished in the black only once since 2014: http://cafidatabase.knightcommissio...a-champaign#!quicktabs-tab-institution_data-1
I have no problem with these folks making money off of NIL but it isn't accurate to say that they are being exploited by their schools.
Whether they make money or not has no bearing on exploiting players. If you are worth $20/hour and I pay you$5. If I lose money as a business I am still ripping you off.Schools don't make 'hundreds of millions of dollars' off of athletics, either. In fact, the vast majority lose money. I am a simple man, I am a working man, I am a Kofi fan, I had 1 photo queed up...backed it up and bought 3...signed Kofi photo's...think I will stage all three on three different walls and gift one to the first soul who notices...I...L...L...and possibly have a third lemonade and bourbon...to celebrate...Imagine if we could make Kofi the the top earner in college basketball? Recruits would definitely take notice. If he comes back, I'm willing to do my part

No, in such a scenario you are short-selling yourself. Everyone has a choice. Slavery has been illegal for some time in this country.Whether they make money or not has no bearing on exploiting players. If you are worth $20/hour and I pay you$5. Yeah, sure.Slavery has been illegal for some time in this country.
Pretty sure these guys owe Spinal Tap some NIL $$ (with apologies to the lovely lads for having a dot over the i and none over the n.)Never question Bruce Dickinson... the symbol remains....
