NCAA has opened a can of worms. $$$ will ruin college sports. It's not fun anymore...pay for play. An education is no longer enough!? Thank God for high school hoops!
Ummm…the NCAA didn’t want this. They did their best to keep the worms inside the can. I believe your frustrations are misplaced, friend.

Oh to have it so rough, poor things. Welcome to the real world!
This is a false equivalency. I worked all through college. It was kept to 20 hours a week, not the 40+ these student athletes need to do, and the university wasn't making hundreds of millions of dollars off me while hammering home that my reputation was the school's and that putting a toe out of line would irreparably harm both. This is nowhere near a real world working situation, and I say that as a grown woman with a career.

What major universities and the NCAA do regarding athletics exploits the work of student athletes plain and simple. It's about time they get to make some money off their work.

This is such a silly statement. If it were the 'real world' it'd be a free market where they could get commensurate value for their work. The NCAA the last 50+ years ain't that.

Can we go back to talking about recruiting and not complaining about the supreme court forcing the NCAA to do the right thing?

Player can always sign jerseys to make money off them.
Ok. But that doesn't change their contribution to the sale. At a minimum, their name added additional value, otherwise the school/corporation wouldn't have spent additional money to add the letters to the back.

Another discussion. Finebaum saying the NCAA didn't prepare, and the result is chaos. Have to agree. Espn
Chaos is right. Illinois likes to think since we passed a law, we have an advantage. I’m not sure that’s the case at all. In states without a NIL law, schools are free to make their own rules as long as they are not prohibited by another existing law. For example, I believe Illinois law prevents student athlete promotion of alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis. There may be more. If a player is of legal age in say Kentucky, that’s obviously a huge pool of money they may have access to unless there is another law prohibiting it.

Schools don't make 'hundreds of millions of dollars' off of athletics, either. In fact, the vast majority lose money. Per the NCAA only 25 programs finished in the black in 2018-19: https://www.ncaa.org/about/resource...,$18.8 billion was spent on athletics in 2019.
Illinois wasn't among those 25. In fact, our athletic department has finished in the black only once since 2014: http://cafidatabase.knightcommissio...a-champaign#!quicktabs-tab-institution_data-1
I have no problem with these folks making money off of NIL but it isn't accurate to say that they are being exploited by their schools.

It's just a tad ironic that alcohol is included on the prohibited list since at Illinois (at least) the athletic department is now making money selling alcohol at some athletic events. That isn't to mention that the state makes millions taxing the sale of all three prohibited substances.

We don't agree on this. I used hyberbole, but when millions are made off an athlete's talent and they only see a few tens of thousands a year in the form of tuition, I call that exploitative. Even if the athletic department ends the year in the red.

It's not just Illinois. It's all of NCAA and NAIA. The system needs to change and I'm glad to see it starting to do just that.

Whether they make money or not has no bearing on exploiting players. If you are worth $20/hour and I pay you$5. If I lose money as a business I am still ripping you off.

No, in such a scenario you are short-selling yourself. Everyone has a choice. Slavery has been illegal for some time in this country.
