Rondo had 3 HOF players around him, and a HOF head coach. What'd he do without them?

Only average almost 12 points and 12 assists a game on a completely garbage team with no help besides Cousins. This is a terrible argument to make. Rondo might be a head case but he is a damn good player. Him and Rubio show that it's possible to be a good PG without being a good shooter. Also think back to the old school with Andre Miller. He was a terrible shooter but nobody ever argued he couldn't play.

If yoy don't want to watch the link, that's from from the 2012 playoffs, when Rondo dropped 44 and 8, when he was the best player on the Celtics with 3 HOF on the court. Not a role player. Otherwise I agree with you Chris. With his age, injury history, attitude and lack of shooting capabilities, teams will only be able to do so much with him in the modern NBA. Also, Gary Payton II will be a 24 year old rookie with no jump shot, without the passing ability Rondo has and without the defensive ability Rondo had. That's actually a terrible comp for Gary. Look up Elliot Williams or Lorenzo Brown. That's what his Nba career will be, on the fringe, deciding between the D League and Europe.

The original post was star player; is rondo a star player? No

Andre Miller came into the league when you didn't need your pg to be a shooter. Now you do

He was a 4 time nba all star but if you want to use opinion over fact then keep it up.

Let me state a fact real quick - his last AS appearance was the 12-13 year. Coincidentally, he had Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to pass to. 2 future hof's, and then he also had Jason terry, a great bench player/veteran. Since then no AS appearances - fact - and he's been a head case.

So without 3 HOF, and HOF coach he's a role player and always has been. That's a fact

I'm hoping the Bulls grab Thon Maker or Malachi Richardson. At 14, I think they have tremendous potential/upside.

His best year, 09-10, of 19.1 doesn't even crack the top 20.

Edit: he finished 34th that year

This is a weird argument. I haven't seen GPII play a ton, but from what I've seen and read, he's nothing like Rondo at all, he's not even really a true point guard.

But a couple other things, teams will take a chance on fixing a guy's jump shot. That's one area in which a guy in his early 20's can make significant improvement. It doesn't always happen but it can. Also, while it is broadly true that it's hard to be a poor shooting guard in today's NBA, if you're extraordinary in a lot of other areas, you can make it work. Russell Westbrook springs to mind.

Probably a good idea. The other guy is spot on.

Headcase/coach killer/locker room cancer overshadows fringe-star talent any day of the week.

See Dwight Howard.

The comparison isn't about his leadership traits, it's about the similarities in his game. Either way, I'm not sure if Rondo was the best comparison for GP2.

This is hilarious. The guy who drug a bunch of spare parts to the NBA finals almost single handedly?

How many accounts does Skip Bayless have on this board?

Talking Dwight? He was awesome, and a top 3-5 player with Orlando. With LA and Houston he's a nightmare

I haven't watched a ton of Ben Simmons, but I just get that Michael Beasley feeling from him.
