Also has anyone seen Robert Quinn lately?
The Amber Alert that interrupted MNF might as well have been about him. I’m not sure I’ve heard his name called once since maybe the Giants game. Meanwhile, Leonard Floyd has put up 7 sacks with the Rams. I’m not upset at them moving on from Floyd, but it is yet another bad look for Pace that his big money replacement has been a dud.

That is a ton of money invested in the defensive line.

I have enjoyed listening to Hub Arkush for many years, and he is still saying that it is unlikely that either Pace or Nagy get the boot after this season and he still characterizes Nagy as a "very good coach." While I would not be surprised if the McCaskeys stand pat after this year, I don't think that is the correct course. I think you could make a case that Nagy deserves one more year, but not Pace. On the other hand, it would probably be hard to fire Pace and find a good new GM who would be willing to go with a coach that isn't "his guy." My problem is, I don't see how the Bears get from point A to point C with the roster on offense. It's not like you can tinker here and there and presto a good offense will appear. You still don't have a QB that is worth a darn. How do you get one? You need three new starters on the o-line. There is so much money sunk into the defense that you will have to divest of some of that money to improve the offense. There is a ton of money tied up in the d-line for a team that won't make the playoffs. How do you sell off parts of the defense to improve the offense and still remain good enough on that side of the ball to contend? How do you resign Allen Robinson? Why would you want Pace pulling the trigger on another qb? Can Pace be trusted to dynamite the thing and do a rebuild with Nagy? I think this is a huge mess.

Carolina's Jeremy Chinn with fumble recoveries returned for TD on consecutive drives in today's loss to the Vikings. Chinn was a 2nd round pick in this year's draft out of SIU.

Bears defense missing Akiem Hicks in this one. Bears offense still hasn't been great but looks at least better than it has in recent weeks with Foles (Granted that isn't a high bar to cross either).

That about up sums up this current state of this franchise

The strategy against the Bears’ defense... go into a spread formation so that the Bears bring in their nickel personnel; throw at Buster Skrine’s guy; repeat until touch down.

I thought Skrine had been a pretty good nickel guy for the Bears up until this season but he has been getting abused on a weekly basis this year. That was a pathetic performance on both sides of the ball coming off a bye and they played like a team that has no confidence in their coaching staff. I really thought Trubisky was going to have a good game-stupid me. I don’t know who you play at qb at this point. It’s hopeless any way you look at it. This is a bad team.

Schedule being reshuffled again. Ravens-Steelers now set to take place Wednesday at 2:40 PM CT (NBC has a contractual agreement to air Christmas in Rockefeller Center on Wednesday night so that's the reason for the earlier start). Steelers-Washington Football team in Week 13 will now be played next Monday afternoon at 4:00 PM CT. Cowboys-Ravens in Week 13 now set for next Tuesday at 7:00 PM CT.

I thought Nagy's "no more Mr. Nice Guy" act in his press conference yesterday was really phony and contrived. How is it that it would take a review of the film to get pissed off about that performance considering he had a front row seat to the debacle Sunday night. His message was clearly for the McCaskeys in my opinion.

It was the first real clear sign that he realizes his job is on the line. Winning this weekend won’t save his job, but losing could certainly cost it. (FWIW, I don’t think the McCaskeys have ever fired a coach mid-season.)

Nagy does have a point though. His team repeatedly dithers for a huge chunk of the game before seeming to focus during the last bit of the game. They seem to have a nice 20 minutes of play in them every game, and then look lost the other 40 minutes. What is that?

The buck ultimately stops with the coach, but this is the NFL. If you can’t get up for a game what are you even doing out there?

Don't disagree with you at all; I just don't understand why Nagy didn't have a pissed off reaction after/during the game and why he did ten hours later. Did he hear about the media and fan reaction after the game? That's why I think he changed his tune in the morning. If the Bears lose out to finish the season I don't think anyone will be fired until after it's over. I think it's likely they finish 7-9 or 8-8 and everybody gets a reprieve though.

We have no o-line and no qb. The problem is the construction of the team, period.

Defense has one bad game it looks like bama vs eastern New Mexico State junior college out there.

I'm a Steelers fan, but with all my depressed Bears fan friends its a crazy to me that Chicago would probably have won 2 (at least 1) Super Bowl if they had just done the obvious move and drafted Watson over Trubisky.

The issue isn't just that the Bears have had mediocre qbs, but that they've massively over-payed to get those mediocre qbs. The money and draft picks they've invested in Mike Glennon, Mitch Trubisky, Chase Daniels and Nick Foles over the last four years are laughable.

They paid Glennon and Daniels 2 or 3 times what comparable qbs were getting during the offseasons they were signed. They didn't have to trade up to get Mitch; in fact, they could have traded down. They didn't have to give up a draft pick to get a qb of Foles' caliber.

They could have rolled out the exact same qbs they have on the team right now and been a significantly better team because they would have had more draft picks and money to shore up the line, bring in better receivers, etc.

Trubisky is a free agent after this season. Foles will be back, but they have to bring at least one more qb in to compete for the starting job, and I don't see how it's possible that the Bears will allow Pace to be the one that makes the decision on who that will be.

Again, I don't think it can be stressed enough...

It's not just that the Bears drafted Mitch Trubisky... They gave up 2 3rd round picks, a 4th round pick, and probably $2-3MM to move up to pick Trubisky instead of just staying pat and picking him with the 3rd pick, and if he was gone at that point they would have had Mahomes or Watson available and probably could have traded down to get them.

The Bears gave up a 4th round draft pick and are paying Nick Foles $24MM for three years. They could have not given up that draft pick and paid Teddy Bridgewater just $3MM more a year, or they could have not given up that draft pick and paid either Andy Dalton or Cam Newton essentially nothing. Or they could have waited Jacksonville out and probably picked up Foles' contract without having to give up the draft pick. Or maybe someone else gives Jax what they want for Foles. And then, Oh no! you don't have Nick Foles and maybe you spend that money on a lineman or something.

And not one single bit of this is 20/20 hindsight. The general reaction around the league when the Bears gave Mike Glennon $18MM was, "Who?" They could have re-signed Brian Hoyer for 1/5th that amount, gotten Nick Foles for $1.6MM, Josh McCown for 1/3, Ryan Fitzpatrick for 1/6 or Case Keenum for 1/9.

There's a pattern here that many won't subscribe to, but I certainly do.

I'd encourage folks here to read this article with an openness to this perspective:
"Still, those listing the likes of Campbell, Burris, Stewart or Blake to support their assertion Chicago has given black quarterbacks loads of opportunities might want to actually look at the depth and breadth of those opportunities."

I can't imagine Lovie Smith could have been there for 9 years and kept silent about it if race was an issue in evaluating talent. Not to mention outspoken, conscientious players from Alan Page to Chris Zorich to Peanut Tillman.

There have been too many coaches and GMs in and out of the organization over the years for it to be anything other than an ownership issue, and if it were an ownership issue, I'm sure a recently fired coach or GM in this day and age would have spoken up to explain why he couldn't get or play the players he wanted to bring in. You think Pace would keep his mouth shut if he's seeing his NFL career going down the drain, or would he say, "I would have drafted Watson, but ownership wouldn't even let me talk to him..."

Maybe that's me being naive. And it's certainly the type of thing that could have ebbed and flowed over the years. I mentioned Alan Page. There's no way a man of that stature would have allowed something like that to happen while he was there and stayed silent. (Seriously. If you don't know, Google him.) But then, his time with the Bears also happened to be the exact time when the Bears drafted and started Vince Evans. Maybe a coincidence. Maybe not.

** Side note: It's bizarre that the Bears had two future state Supreme Court justices on their team from 1978-1981 in Alan Page and Bob Thomas.
