No surprise to me. The AD is virtually brand-new, the department is in turmoil because of the leadership change and the cheerleader lawsuit that pushed the prior one (IIRC, Phillips' successor) out, and it simply wouldn't be politically tenable to fire Gragg at this point for those and other reasons. He's there for a while, which doesn't seem positive for the Northwestern athletics. He's entirely unimpressive IMO.

I give thanks daily for Josh.

[EDIT: I read the entire interview. Schill is canny. I can see why he was dean of the Univ of Chicago Law School. He's not going anywhere.]

Where can NU rebuild this program?

Back to the topic:

How can the assistant coaches still have jobs? how can players still have scholarships?
(or be in school for that matter) This is approaching the Penn St cover up, only not involving
kids. They both need to be shut down. Too late for PSU, not too late for the NCAA to do
the right thing. At this point it seems the big ten is protecting them. how does that sound?

Just college programs going through a review and cleaning house quick.

No other connection.
The nature of the ritualistic hazing at Northwestern was pitch-perfect for the school and for Fitz.

I'm picturing something with much more of a DaVinci Code flair to it at Notre Dame.

Illinois will of course have been forcing kids to do Joey Chestnut type force-feeding activities.

I’m honestly surprised there hasn’t been more transfer/decommit activity.

The timing of the fallout is going to make it extremely hard for players to find a new home. The portal was effectively closed last month and final scholarships were spoken for across the country. No one wants to enter the portal and fail to find a program. My guess is only incoming, first-year players will enter the portal this summer but there will be a massive exodus after the season for those with remaining eligibility. This year's version of NW football is likely to be much better, talent-wise, than next year's version.

Who is making the PR decisions for NU? Because I consider this another misstep. It comes across as cowardly.

You send student athletes to field questions nobody on the admin or football staff are willing to take?
If the hazing questions are off the table for these young men, then ok. If not, it will be another PR nightmare for NU. It's a lose/lose.
