Bad second half. Gotta have a lot more fight on the boards than that. 2nd game in a row IL got out rebounded. When you go up against a team with some size and weight in the post GB and KN have to play with toughness and get some boards. Not blaming them for the loss, you can't always get away with playing a small line-up. Being a guy who holds a grudge I'm ticked they let Liddell have a big night. Wouldn't be just another player for me and he played like a guy who wanted to blow up , Illini.
Cockburn, has to touch the ball more the second half. I don't care if they double him they have to look to him more. Frazier, is very much needed from 3. They could use a lift from him on offense.

It was so obvious that Liddell was using this game as a revenge factor.
And the team let him. But honestly most years almost every original B10 team has a kid from Illinois on it. Not all of them go off against the Illini. Smith from IU and Eastern from Purdue didn’t kill anyone.

I really wish BBV would have been healthy this year to at least see what he could do in a game like the last couple when we could use a power 4 that can shoot and play D against teams with size and skill at the 4 so Kofi wouldnt have to help out quite so much and hit the defensive glass. Kofi could have had more than 3 boards if he wasnt always helping out and out of position to rebound so often

Not our best game but that's life on the road in the B1G. This one just gets magnified a bit due to what was on the line.

With that said, any time a team loses by nearly double digits and makes 5 more total FGs than their opponent probably has a pretty legit complaint.

Tonight, missed open, outside shots, getting beat on the boards, fouls cost us the game. On the season, however, it is the production from the "4". If you aren't hitting your outside shots, you have to have production from that key forward position. We get none. We win games mostly with dog defense, and Ayo and Felix's ability to drive the ball. Take that away, get zero production from GB and little from Kipper, and that's the recipe for a loss. Liddell sure would have looked good in orange and blue. That's what is keeping this team from being a serious tournament team. They can still win a couple with the right match-ups. Maybe 3, maybe 1!

1. Being a retired official, the officiating was quite one sided. Obviously, 3-1 advantage for Oh st, saw the same fouls on both ends of the court, but state got the calls.
2. We had shots, but can't make them. Kofi missed inside 1 footers, no one can make 3s. Can't make shots can't win.
3. No block outs on D.
4. No rebounds.
5. NO attempt to get 4th foul on K Wesson. Had a chance to get him out early.
6. DW can't guard the big guys. Put Alan in.

If it were not for Kofi, the Illini would have a losing record since Trent and Giorgi cannot make shots. If Ayo and Kofi gone next year, we will have a losing record. If Kofi stays, we have a chance of a winning record assuming Trend and Giorgi can shoot better.

In tourney, we will be lucky to win more than one game, if that, unless Trent and Giorgi can shoot better. Guys better practice and practice shooting.

Do you not remember where this team was prior to Trent becoming the lead PG on the team? Trent's shooting is suffering yes, but he leads, he gets the offense going and it allows Ayo to be placed in more successful situations as an off guard PG if you will.
Right...and then there's his defense. Guy never stops working on the defensive end.

Haha, like Evan Turner.

I get the “I was spurned by the Illini so I’ll have my career game against them” ala THT or Javon Pickett. But we WANTED Liddell to come here. Why would playing us get him all hyped up?

What is it about the fact that the Illini were involved in their lives at all make them want to dig deep and play great that other teams don’t have to deal with?

Liddell scored 14 total in his last 3 games, and 17 against us. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The whole “some random player has a career night against us” idea isn’t some random Illinois curse. This is a very very common belief amongst all fanbases and routine trope on plenty of college basketball forums. Every fanbase thinks so-and-so went off on us because the basketball gods toss down lightening at us out or spite.

Trent is also one of our best defenders you have to play both ends. This tea pr much lives and dies with their defense and rebounding

I think if Kofi comes back (which he should, he needs a lot of work on his game), with BVV hopefully healthy, Giorgi won't see the court. If this program is what a lot of us think it is, Giorgi is getting mop-up minutes or for someone in foul trouble. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't add another big.

Hate to tell you, we had 77 possessions to their 72 and we outshot them from 2-3 sadly enough and were outscored by 15 in the 2nd half...oh by the way we shot 10 FT to their 28. That said I am never a blame it on the ref guy, but tonite we got homered by them.
That is not true. When you go to the line and are fouled it doesnt count as a shot but it certainly is a possession. They had roughly 10 more possessions than we did. They out rebounded us by 7 on the offensive glass and beat us TOs by committing by 3 fewer

These are really 2 key stats for us to win games since outside shooting is not our strong suit. They did what we usually do by winning those two key stats. .

Underwood: We did everything we wanted to defensively. OSU only made three 3-pointers.

Underwood: What we didn't foresee was just the total dominance on the glass.

Underwood: Tough shooting. Went on a 16-2 run and hard to argue with the shots we got.

Underwood: We just didn't make shots. Besides Ayo going 9-14, we have to have other guys step up.

Underwood: We recruited EJ Liddell. We know how good he is.

Underwood: The one thing that's really hard for Kofi is when he has to extend that far on defense. We had very little rhythm (due to fouls).

Underwood reiterates: "We got good looks."

It's why shot-making is such a priority in recruiting (Miller, Grandison, Hutcherson next season).

Underwood: We shot 22 threes, which is too many for us on the road.

Underwood: Frazier guards his tail off. Shut down Washington tonight. He got good looks. There will be nights that ball goes in for him

I do I do, but Ayo has evolved since then.
+/- tonight
Frazier -17
Feliz -15
Griffin +7

Trent needs to make open shots or REALLY focus on play making...I love Trent, he bleeds O&B...but he’s killing us right now

I hope that AG would be a little more aggressive and look to shoot some of the shots he is passing on. I really think if he shot more not less he could really open things up. He had that attitude the other night when he was hot. He is the one guy i wish would shoot more from out there and have TF and some others take a few less. If we shoot 22 three AG needs half of em! lol

I dont think TF is killing us. He does a lot of things very well and should take open shots but he needs to pass on some of the ones he has to dribble so much to get. That is about 1/2 of them and to distribute the rock to AG or others instead. In TFs defense when we dont have shooters on the floor that is tough to do and why AG needs to play
