The Orange Krush was worried that Iowa would not sell a block of 200 seats to a rival student group. To avoid this possibility, their solution was to obscure their real identity/affiliation and falsely claim they were the "Illinois Chapter of the Boys and Girls Club? Some of the brightest students this State has to offer decided the best course of action was to lie and impersonate a children's charity? People are defending this unethical behavior? The Orange Krush most certainly needs to issue a public apology.
Spare me your pearl clutching. Stupid? Yes. But they're college kids. No one was actually hurry by the stunt.

I was looking at Iowa's forum. Man do they hate Illinois. LOL It would be great to give them even more reason to!
I lived in Iowa City for a long time. They hate Iowa State, they hate Nebraska, they loathe Wisconsin, they strongly dislike Minnesota, etc. However, when Illinois is actually good, there is no school that gets their blood boiling with just pure hatred. I hope this continues to develop into a mutual, nationally recognized rivalry ala Indiana/Purdue. It deserves it!

This is one that should be left alone. Yesterday, this got taken to Twitter and people were tagging many, many sports media outlets and big personalities to report the story of Iowa's poor sportsmanship. The onion got peeled back and it was the Krush that are taking the PR hit. They're college kids. We understand that they weren't trying to be malicious. They were trying to get into the game and have a 2005 moment. Take the L and put it in the review mirror.

Chicago media has picked this up (670 the score) with them describing the Orange Krush behavior as “Disgusting”. Clearly Iowa won the PR battle here and convinced everyone that some sort of legitimate fraud has occurred aside from giving a fake group name. Give me a break.
If 670 the Score told me the sky was blue, I would have to still look outside to confirm...

Wouldn't the best way for Iowa to stick it in Krush's face would be to let them come to the game then have all the fans at CHA mock them after an Iowa win? Guess they don't have too much confidence in that scenario.
Some Illinois friendly business/booster should just by the darn tickets for the crush.

Content wars.

Whatever gets you clicks or ears or eyes.

Iowa won the PR battle by telling the truth with the intent to deceive. Nothing they said was false, but it insinuated illegal activity.

And the masses latched on to the supposed illegal activity.

Can’t un-ring the bell, but Krush can learn from it.

And I do think JW could get out there just to make a statement that nothing illegal took place. Bad taste? Yup. But not illegal.

Krush is too good of an organization to be marred by one event. Having support from the school with a clear concise message not condoning the name choice but confirming nothing illegal happened would be the right play.

A poster a little while back had a nearly perfect ready to send email for JW.

I gave up listening to the Score years ago. They complain about everything in Chicago sports.

Chicago media personalities are COMPLETELY miserable losers, by and large ... even the "good" ones. It's in their DNA to complain and act like their high standards aren't being met, like someone who's afraid to get hurt so never dates anyone that is "beneath them." :ROFLMAO: This ranges from the tepid/cautious love shown to the Blackhawks or Bears to the absolute disdain for the local college teams unless they're winning big.

Seems like Krush went on the attack first and left enough room for Iowa to get the PR "win" with their statement. Safest bet is probably to take the lump and move on. Obviously there was no financial gain, but like others have said, spoofing as a real organization wasn't smart.

But there's also still lots of time for more positive PR and good sportsmanship. How about issuing a challenge to the Iowa athletic department (or student section, if it's a separate group)? Both sides fundraise for the local Boys and Girls club between now and tip-off on Saturday - winning group gets a block of tickets from the losing group the next time there's a road game.

In future years, just find a local Illini fan or someone else to buy group tickets for "potential clients". There's no reason a group of 200 Illinois students wouldn't qualify as potential clients for almost any business out there.

Chicago host just said this "opens a Pandora's box" that could "lead into an investigation of the 501-c3 status of the Orange Crush."

Pearls being clutched with white knuckles.
I swear I think this country has gone completely crazy. The things people get upset over is absurd. At the risk of sounding like an old codger, if I were sitting next to someone that said that I would have to restrain myself from backhanding their !!! out of their chair. They are kids, no was ever harmed by this, it is a harmless prank. Does everyone take testosterone suppressors now?? Sorry for the rant, I'll go chase some kids off my lawn.

I just saw a suggestion on Reddit (long live Reddit takes!) that Krush should have posed as a group for "The Human Fund" instead.

It's a good suggestion going forward. Maybe instead of money their slogan can be, "Tickets for People".
How About: The Human League?
(There’s nothing quite like a little New Wave Music. Besides, I’ve heard they have fallen on hard times.)

Iowa blows! We all know it.

Any chance Goode is ready to suit up? Would be a perfect time to start ramping him up for the stretch run.

Half of them are probably Illinoisians who couldn't get into Illinois.
I feel it's a decently known fact that circumstances led me to actually attend Iowa for college (I lived in Iowa at the time and saved about $30k going there instead of Illinois 😓 ), and I can confirm this. I think my senior year (2014) Iowa was almost 40% Illinois-born students, and many that I knew freely admitted they got rejected from Illinois, haha ... but you'd actually see more Illini gear among them than you'd think! Either way, as a whole, this group was VERY fair weather about supporting Hawkeye sports, pretty much disengaging if they weren't good and ALWAYS preferring pro sports.

To me(please correct me if I'm wrong) this isn't even a sports/athletic department issue. It stinks that the best student section in the country (who are kids) are being questioned by the Chicago media because it's a slow news day. At what point did college kids have to stop being college kids? This is a group that has raised millions for charity. The philanthropic efforts put forth(on top of being students) is off the charts, second to none and the Chicago hosts angle is commenting on their 501c-3? Smh. It should probably be noted that Holmes is a DePaul grad and Bernstein is a Duke grad(and he's talking about money related topics???). They have no ties to the school. It's just something to eat up a threw minute segment.
