Couple of things here
1. The Krush posed as a fictional organization since there is no such thing as the Illinois Chapter of the Boys and Girls Club.
2. Student organizations do this across the country so why is it a big deal this time.
3. The Krush is a 501C3 and therefore a charity in and of itself and would get whatever discount is claimed. The point is they tricked Iowa into selling it to them because otherwise they would not have sold the Krush the tickets directly.
4. To Iowa, why right now? What happened in this moment that made you realize who this block of tickets was sold to? That is not coincidence.
As someone mentioned, you can kick out an obnoxious fan. Denying entrance is a little extreme, though I would hope that U of I wouldn't sell tix to a group that identifies itself as a Nazi organization, for example. Is Krush comparable? Well, one Krush member was obnoxious to an Iowa player a couple years ago (the "go f*ing kill yourself" incident.) At times like these, I wish Krush had a formal "no abuse" policy that they could point to in response.

(And, fwiw, yes, cheers like "you suck" annoy me, but primarily because they are completely devoid of cleverness and wit. U of I students should be able to do better, particularly better than "go f*ing kill yourself.")

I was just wondering. If Fran McCafferty and his wife would move to Kentucky after he retires and say they got a divorce, would that mean they were still brother and sister.

- Iowa shoots much better than us from 3-pt range and a lot better from the FT line. Iowa averages 81 ppg on OFF and gives up 73 ppg on DEF. Overall +10 margin. They rank first and last, respectively.

- Illini are averaging 75 ppg on OFF and giving up 63 ppg on DEF. Overall +12. Defense is our #1 advantage.

The Krush probably shouldn't have used the B&G Club as their cover. That seems to be a tad in bad taste.

But make no mistake, the Iowa AD and Ticket Office look like a bunch of babyback b-words coming out of this. Any organization or team that limits who can buy tickets to their games because they are afraid of away fans are soft as can be. My goodness. Can't wait to beat them anyway.

They're not necessarily denying entrance as much as not wanting to sell to rival fans in bulk. It's definitely bush league but far from unprecedented. As others have mentioned Nashville restricted ticket access to Blackhawks fans, the Brewers have been trying to do the same to the Cubs for a few years now and I've heard that Colorado would only sell tickets to the Kansas game grouped with other home games to discourage Kansas fans from filling their arena.

Again, bush league to be sure and the statement they released is complete horse sh*t but if not for the Krush losing money on the charter buses I would almost respect the level pettiness. I would have no problem if the roles were reversed.

Just one other small piece from me on the whole ticket debacle….I don’t know how many people Carver Hawkeye holds and I’m not going to look it up, but a group of 200 is at most less than 2% of capacity. That’s not enough to take away any home court/crowd advantage.

Back to the game…we will need to play probably our best game to win but I actually think we match up pretty well. If we can hug their 3 pt shooters and make Rabraca and Murray shoot tough 2’s we have a chance. Think Hawkins and Dain can slow down Murray and Rebeaca and if Dain gets into foul trouble should be able to slide Coleman and Mayer over. Only potential mismatch I see is Perkins or Ulis bullying our frosh guards, but if that turns out to be a problem, think Ty can slow them down. We will need to play well but we’ve got a shot!

I am gonna with two wrongs don't make a right.. The Krush should have never bought the tickets under false pretences. Iowa had the right to refund the tickets.. Looks bad on both but we will look worse because of the lie. Whomever is the responsible member of the Krush should be relieved of his position and forced to take ethics101.

Next time get permission from the charity you are working with to use their name or simply buy the tickets at full price

They do. Or at least they did when I was in it.

Any thought this might be a cover... intentionally using the name in hopes of getting caught.

Orange Krush has completely lost the PR battle, all the neutrals are big mad at Orange Krush... that's what happens when a bunch of college kids go up against a professional organization. Hopefully a life lesson for the kids, and hopefully this blows over once the game tips off. It's actually a fairly nuanced situation but the bloodhounds of the internet need a reason to be outraged at somebody.

I think DIA would do well to give some PR support to Krush in the future by, at the very least, offering some kind of PR training to the Krush chairs.

For many reasons, I'm sure JW would rather not touch this. But I would like to see him make a statement just laying out the facts. Doesn't have to condemn one side or the other. Just get the facts out in the open from a universally respected and credible source.

Really, the only question was whether or not Iowa offered a special specific rate because they thought it was a Boys and Girls club other than say a standard rate for charitable organizations or gave additional benefits. As it's been shown that's not the case and this was a standard group rate discount, there should be no issue here. Opposing fan bases within the B10 have done this for at least the past 25 years- make up a charity group name, "trick" the home team ticket office into selling a bunch of tickets, go to the game, and then swap the home team's colors for their own. This literally has happened every season in the B10 (covid year not included) since I went to school at Illinois. And it's not been just Illinois doing it either.

Generally the home team puts out some pithy statement, says grrrrrr, gets their fans in frenzy telling them to buy out all tickets to avoid this in the future, while secretly liking they were able to sell an extra few thousand dollars worth of tickets for that game while also rallying their fan base. None of what happened here is new or novel or even atypical in the B10. So for Iowa to react like this is fraud at the last second and cancel, is just over the top preachy ivory tower nonsense trying to drum up drama and controversy for no reason.

All this is, is Iowa being salty about losing their last 4 and 5 of their last 6 against us. Nothing more, nothing less.

While our team has struggled with our intensity level in rivalry games this year I hope we show up big for this one and scrub the floor with them. Hate Iowa.

I'm feeling a a couple points higher, but I'm probably influenced by watching that last game, when they couldn't miss in the last 10 minutes.

Respectfully disagree. Don't need any of this tarnish on him. And outside of Illinois I highly doubt the Twitterverse would see the Illinois AD as universally respected and credible.

Iowa outplayed us here, pure and simple. Take the lashing and move on. I'm already expecting a higher level of douchebaggery than usual when I go to the game Saturday, and am not happy about that either. But not much to do about it now.

As Illinois fans (specifically football), we have seen our fair share of other fanbases come in and occupy large portions of our own stadium and yet (to my knowledge) the ticket office has never revoked tickets like this. You don't want groups of opposing fans flocking to your stadium and taking over? Then do a better job selling the product to your own fanbase.

In short, shut up Iowa; take our money and disrespect.

I've never wanted the beloved Illini to win as badly as I want them to win Saturday. In an ideal world, it would be great to beat them by 30 or 40, and have Fran give another weird look that goes viral.

I would also take a one point victory where Fran looks like he might cry afterwards. There are just certain teams that I cannot stand. I was in school in the early 90's when Iowa turned us in for sanctions. I hate Iowa for this, and I hate Michigan and Michigan State for being themselves. I can tolerate all the others.

Made ESPN thing I don’t like the article the writer said Crush bought under Boy and Girls instead of assuming. When in fact Crush made a name up to mimic a real entity for what ever reason

They do that every year when they buy their bulk tickets for their road trip.
