lol. You know, the memory of that awful, constipated offense completely deluded me into recalling that the team was mediocre that year. It actually finished 3rd in the conference @ 11-7 and that was the year they lost to the Hilltoppers in the first round of the Dance. Much better than I'd thought.

Don't know if we can get to 20 straight again v. Goldy but we're on a three-game win streak against 'em. That game at The Barn last year was just a delight. A complete beat-down, televised on Fox on a Saturday afternoon. More, please.

Illinois came into that debacle ranked #18 in the AP which made that performance all the more depressing considering the expectations.

People do tend to remember the the worst of the Weber yrs. He needed to go at the end but he wasn’t near as bad as Groce. He still got us to the Dance every other year. He had a couple of Big ten title teams. Had a lot of bad luck. Chester getting hurt at the end of the season. The Jamar Smith Debacle. Etc. Hopefully we can continue the run against Minny.

Saw this elsewhere (putting it as vaguely as possible). Minnesota's reaction to the postponement.

Oh, and here's my contribution to the thread concerning bad losses. Jan 2014 Welsh Ryan arena NW 49 Illini 43. Not as bad as some of the others posts but it was particularly bad because I was there. My friends and I just shook are heads wondering if we actually saw a basketball game or what?

Fairly mild reaction compared to what would likely happen here if the rolls were reversed vs a team expected to contend for the title.

They had an elite weave

The reason it seemed so bad is because of the elite expectations that had rightfully been developed. Groce simply showed that we could somehow go even lower! Very happy to have Underwood here now!

As for this game, has anyone watched Minnesota? I’m always a little nervous for a B1G road game and all, but I just love the way we’ve been playing and I know Minnesota’s schedule has been kind of meh, if not Iowa bad. ;)

Plus, this group’s continued ability to win on the road in this conference is an exceptionally welcome surprise each and every time.

It’s so strange watching B10 games lately, and not hearing anything about Illinois. Seems like the covid shutdown has taken us completely off the radar. I’d love for us to pick up where we left off and torch Minnesota, but it might take a few games to get back into a groove. Here’s hoping it only takes us a few possessions 🙂

As a fun side note, we beat Minnesota 20 times in a row from the 1998-99 season to 2007-08. That streak was broken in a game I remember like it was yesterday - McCamey and Co. came into The Barn ranked #19 and got absolutely worked, losing 59-36 ... and we looked BAD.
36 points is a special kind of bad.

This was not our worst game that season.... We lost another one two weeks later 38-33 to Penn State.

We lost in the first round of the tournament that year to an 11th or 12th seeded Western Kentucky.

Plummer is at least pushing on some records artificially this year. Altenberger shot 47.2% from 3 for a career. AP won't reach the minimum 125 made most likely, but it would be neat to see him better that. He's at 44.7%.

Same with free throws. Judson had a 87.5% career average. AP is currently ahead of that at 97.3%.

Hard to compare those 3 point percentages. Doug was shooting from 19' 9" while Plummer is shooting from 22' 1.75".

True. It’s also hard to compare because the 3 point line didn’t exist until Altenberger’s senior year. Guards start practicing 3 pt shooting in grade school now.

Regardless, if he continues at his current pace many, including me, will likely consider Plummer the best 3 point shooter we’ve ever seen at Illinois. His consistency is what has surprised me the most. I thought he’d be more of a streak shooter a la Trent.

Watching Mike Woodson lead Indiana to another loss at PediU gives such a comforting feeling that they are in the correct hands to continue their decline into oblivion.
Woodson may pull an "Antonio Brown" when we roll into town and wax them.
