Misinterpreted your post the first time. You're saying that if we lose, Purdue is likely to get at least a share of the B1G, in which case our only option is to win outright because Purdue owns the head to heads. Good point.

I still like our chances to win outright though. Just finish 6-2. I don't even care where the losses come from.

Not totally true. If we lose twice to Purdue and we both have four losses, they win the tiebreaker.

Right. I've worked under the assumption all year that 4 losses will be good enough to win it outright. So I'm sticking with that out of stubbornness if nothing else.

Tie-breakers only apply to tournament seeding. An equivalent record would mean regular season co-champions.

Edit: AdDoBe beat me to it.

T Rank now has us favored in every remaining game except this one where we are a 6.2 underdog. Have expected to lose this one all year and would really be impressed if we pull out a win here. BU needs a game plan here. Wonder if this is a game where he should plan on having Kofi shoot the 10-15 footer. Bring Edey away from the basket and use his quickness. He has looked good the two times I remember him shooting it. Must utilize our quickness as that is our advantage to offset their size advantage.
Purdue, MSU, MI, Rutgers (not the same Rutgers team now) all away ... That's why they say play them one game at a time.

What do you mean by not the same Rutgers team? Serious question - haven’t seen them play other than UI game - you saying they’re playing better or have injuries or ???

Mulcahy has been out of his mind the last couple games. 31 against NW and he dominated the game against MSU. Looked like a totally different player. Hopefully was just a game of a lifetime but if he can continue that sort of play, they are going to be very difficult.

Or put Edey in PnR situations with Kofi and Trent/Belo.

Even beyond getting concussed, banging with Edey down low did seem to take it out of Kofi. I think Kofi is definitely quicker. Let’s pull Edey away from the hoop and make him move his feet and see if he can do that without fouling.
I know it’s not his strength, but we’ve done it a couple times with Plummer and he’s the guy I’d do it with. You play drop coverage on Trent and Curbelo but you can’t on him. A good screen by Kofi and Plummer is open or Edey is in some trouble.

Not directing this toward you but this is stupid. I’m obviously a die hard Illinois fan but if we lose Tuesday and finish tied with Purdue we should not be considered a co-champ with them. We shouldn’t put up a banner. They would be the champions.

That said, let’s go beat their butts and leave no doubt.

How many wins are you thinking an outright champ will need?

I still think 16-4 wins the B1G outright, so operating under that assumption, I don't see this as a must win. If we lose, we just need to finish 6-1 with our toughest stretch of games behind us. If we win, just go ahead and raise the banner. (Yes I know there's still a lot time left in the season. Yes I know the B1G is a grind.)
IMO 16-4 wins outright

Any update on Curbelo for this game? It really looked like he reaggravated his concussion issue on Saturday on a screen. He was consistently rubbing the back of his head (Just like he was the last game he played before going in protocol) and never returned to the floor the rest of the game. Blessings young man, not the season you envisioned, hang in there!

I thought tiebreakers are only for seeding purposes in the conference tournament. If both UI and PU finish 16-4, they would be co-champions, no?
Very good question for those of us — er, I mean, those of YOU — who maybe bet Illinois to win the B1G title at +700 the day after the Cincinnati debacle.

No Geo Baker then. Mulcahy playing out of his mind last two games. Omoruyi much improved. All of this is also opening things up for Ron Harper Jr. Very well coached.
Baker played in the last game. Don’t know his status.
