Browne ran 9 times for 22 yards. IIRC he had one great conversion run, otherwise we held him very much in check. Last year… yeah it was brutal. I won’t wax poetic on that game but I’ll concede it was an awful game plan.

WMU scored 0 pts against us I’ll give a QB a million yards if that ends up being the case. But tha wasn’t the argument so yes he enjoyed some success. I will say they were very much in between two QBs, they switched mid game to the running QB, that’s a hard game plan. Even still I agree we should do better given the talent difference.

So over the past year and a half, we’ve had 2 games of mediocre to bad QB run contain. I think that’s a decent track record.

He's a mobile QB and tore us up through the air. Fair point on the rushing yards though we game planned to stop the run and he beat us up with his arm while their RBs got close to 200 yards IIRC.

I did think it was more on the ground though tbh. Had to shut the game off early to cut beans so really only got to watch the 1st quarter of that game. Maybe him prolonging some drives early with his legs inflated my take on his running.

I was at that game. He was ahead of his time. But if you look at his stats compared to nowadays, it’s not much but for the time period it was great! I think we were actually ahead at halftime but got destroyed by like 50 something to 14.

This is why the false perception that the SEC is the tougher conference matters. It means their conference wins and rank are considered superior, despite the SEC’s inferior head-to-head performance against the Big Ten in the NIL era.

I don't make 800k per year to coach or design defense. How about a simple idea of putting 2 spies on the kid. Wherever he goes, they crush. Make them beat you in other ways. If they do, tip the cap. That's what makes certain D coordinators special.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Ohio State was able to solve them.
The 22 - 3 recent record is a very convincing stat as to the toughness it is to play there.

The big motivation should be for us is that a win makes us bowl eligible. That alone should be enough to get it done.

Just thought about something:

Walters isn't coaching here anymore, but he's still helping us get some W's. Had he not thought that he was the coolest guy on earth and picked up Hudson Card here in his fancy car, I'd assume we wouldn't have Altmyer. Boy has that really worked out in our favor! Thanks cool guy!

You'll see a lot of 5 man fronts from Washington I believe. Trying to stop KF and CV up the middle. A lot of cover 1 man, try and see if we can get separation and win 1 on 1 battles outside.

Illinois: I doubt we see lot of blitzes, keep their QB in the pocket. DL should have advantage over bad OL.

Every long term rebuild that end up successful have these watershed moment type of games. I'm sure some Wiscy fans can still quote certain games from the 90's where they "proved" their arrival.

It's not just pulling upsets against the name brands, it's winning on the road against a team that appears to be your equal. This game has a bit of that feel to me. Win & set up a potential for meaningful football in early December as well as raising the stature of the program.

A loss isn't a killer but a win could be one we look back fondly on years from now as one of those days where we established ourselves as a legit big boy in the upper third of the league. Bret's done great work & this is the next milestone. Winning the big games on the road when there is a lot at stake. Wisconsin & Iowa built a whole lot of their long term success over the last 25 years on consistently winning these type of games.

I really like us coming off a bye. Bret & crew has shown consistent good work on a bye or a long break the last couple years. Even the Citrus Bowl, we implemented some things that we used to success in that game with time to self scout & make some tweaks to what we do.
