A lot of optimism on this board about the Illini's performance against Washington this Saturday. Include me out. When Washington has a decent team (which they do this year) they are just about unbeatable in Husky Stadium. I hope I'm wrong, but: UW 34, Illini 24.
I’m going to have to agree with this. We are a good team but not a playoff team yet imo…. UW’s offense is hard to contain.

Hopefully the name checks out! But I tend to agree with you. Will be a TALL task to beat the Huskies at home after a pretty sound defeat. They have just as much as us to play for.

BUT, this could be a program - defining win for BB. Let's hope he found some magic over the off week!

In year 5 of this rebuild/job if you told Bret on his first day that he has one game left on the schedule where he is a 4.5pt underdog on the road off a bye, then the remaining games he is favored in all and 3/4 are at home to punch a ticket to the playoff I'm sure he would've signed up for that.

Just need to execute and capitalize while you still have Luke - think we play to our ceiling here and special teams finally make some positive impact plays.

ILL 27 - UW 16

I’m confident we can move the ball and score against these guys but it will come down to can we stop them enough

I’d really like to see us dial up pressure some more and try to force some mistakes. We’re so bad on third downs and we can’t get pressure with just the front 4, so it’s worth trying. We saw some UW mistakes against Michigan when under pressure, we need to try to force the issue

Forecast 4 days out is for miserable, wet weather. If that holds, then the team that can run and take care of the ball has an advantage; unfortunately, I don’t think that is us.

I expect we will have A LOT of fans at the game, sections 101, 102, 104, and 331-333.

But the guy at their ticket office who talked to me is named Jesus, which seems like kind of a big hurdle for us to overcome.

We’ve been decent in stopping the run and Washington only managed 40 yards rushing against Michigan, so the rain likely helps our defense.

But it definitely hurts our offense. Turnovers will likely dictate the outcome. Rain games can have some fluky ones.

Luke is the difference maker. Use him, win the turnover battle and we win this one by 10 plus

I think for me it’s the belief that we’re due for that great performance where everything is clicking. You’re picturing our average vs. their average on their field where they hardly ever lose … and that’s a fair prediction if that’s what we get.

However, I have a hunch that maybe Washington is regressing ever so slightly, and we’ll play our best game of the year after the OSU test and a bye week!

I agree with this.

Here’s Washington’s last 4 games:

G1: L 24-6 OSU

OSU yards: 357
Washington yards: 258

OSU yards per play: 5.8
Washington yards per play: 4.4

For context, we outgained OSU and were even in yards per play.

G2: W 24-20 @ Maryland

The same Maryland that has lost 3 straight. Washington was down 20-3 in the 4th quarter.

G3: W 38-19 Rutgers

The same Rutgers that lost 56-10 at home against Oregon on Saturday. Washington was down 10-13 at the half. They gave up 493 yards of offense, so Rutgers should have scored a lot more than 19.

For context, we generated 507 yards against Purdue and scored 43.

G4: L 24-7 @ Michigan

Yes, a couple of untimely interceptions sealed this one, but Michigan outgained Washington 417-249 and gave up 6.1 yards per play while only generating 4.5 yards per play.

This was the same Michigan that lost to USC (a team we beat) the week before 31-13.

This is going to be a tough one. I'm hoping bye week trumps playing a road game on the West Coast, but man, these are really hard games to win. Typically legacy B10 teams don't just stroll into legacy Pac10 stadiums and win and vice versa. I like that Bret will be flying them out early, but hell, I might've flown them out even earlier so long as they could find a place to practice. The time difference, the change in environment... tough tough game to get the body ready for. And then also playing a good team coming off a loss. Don't like that either.

And then there's the x-factor, the rain. Now usually you'd say advantage to the team with the better offensive line and the better run game, disadvantage to the team relying on the pocket QB. And that seems strong advantage Washington considering they also have a highly mobile QB and our defense isn't quite known for their overall speed and mobility.

But as an athlete who also wasn't known for my wheels, man did I love a rain game. It always felt like the great equalizer, where those fast athletes played like they were wearing ankle weights and I just ran seemingly unaffected, if not invigorated. Those were my best games and I still get nostalgic whenever I get to see one in person.

I like our physical DBs running downhill to blow up Washington skill guys in the rain. I trust Luke in the rain. I think we'll run better in the rain. And I think Washington's excellent QB won't be as shifty in the rain.

I'm sufficiently amped now. Let's win this!

Yes, and a big one. Probably the most significant factor in the whole game.

Your playing days sound much better than mine. All I was was an undersized safety who jumped on the pile. In fact, I only "made" the team because the coach needed more warm bodies. I never played offense; there's not much call for a pint-sized "athlete" with no speed, who didn't even have shoes that fit.

Flying out Thursday night is a smart move by BB.....Get's the team more acclimated to the time zone and elevation difference better than waiting till Friday...........the weather forecast would seem to favor the Huskies but could be negated by our overall veteran experienced players........

Our coaches and staff know what a win will do for our mission of making the CFP and I just think we are due for a breakout game with the offense and defense jelling together in the same game......Turnovers with the rainy forecast will decide this game IMHO.....
It's great seeing that we should have all our starters back minus X. Scott..........

Based on all I have heard and read up to now , I predict..............

Illini 27
uw 21

hope I am right and we continue our quest for our first CFP appearance...............

LET'S GO FIGHTING ILLINI.................
