You gotta start younger than that. I was born up in the Horseshoe, and emerged from the womb just in time to check if the field goal the Illini were kicking was good. Too poor to buy a pacifier, I teethed on an orange mouthpiece. In honor of Grange and Butkus, my folks gave me the first and middle names of Red and Dick. Try fighting your way through school with those names. After I learned to walk, my dad gave me an orange and blue football and told me to hang on to it. If I dropped it, I had to do 10 laps around the house while singing the 3 in 1. Every Halloween, I trick or treated dressed as the Chief. My dogs are named Oskee and Wow wow. Yeah, I guess you could call me a fan.

DeVito's passer rating at Illinois: 137.2
Peters' passer rating at Illinois: 123.1

DeVito's passer rating would have put him at 7th last year (compared to 13th for Peters).

Currently 10th in Big Ten PER (right behind Hilinski) and yards per attempt (right behind Thorne). 5th in completion percentage (behind Mertz).

I'm the same. Dad's from Tuscola but I grew up in New Jersey & Indiana. Was the only Illini fan in my high school. Went to Wabash College but spent alot of weekends in Champaign.
It’s so essential we change the dynamic among young Illinoisans. I’m an Illini fan because my dad and grandpa were (neither are alums), and it became a part of my identity. It was so entrenched that I cheered for the Illini in grade school in a town full of rival fans and maintained my fandom through four years at another Big Ten university.

“Reengaging alumni” is the absolute base/minimum effort, we need kids growing up as Illini fans with circumstances like me. We aren’t a private school, we are the state flagship. How many Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, etc. fans do you think went there? Our alumni will always be our most passionate fans, but we have to fast a MUCH wider net. U of I has about 500k alumni (IIRC), and based on most studies, that alone would make us a small fan base.

I really enjoy getting to be a Week 0 team and satisfy that craving for college football. But this weekend is the price. I just want to get out there and see us get to 3-1 and instead it is the first half of September and there is only one game between now and October. I want football!

Oh well. 3-1 and lets try to get to 4-2 and that's a great start to the season!

100% understand the feeling. However a bye week to get some guys healed up, and coaches getting some mid season adjustments should prolong our enjoyment of this season.

Isn't Tuscola where Fred Wakefield is from?

Would like to see Chase have at least 180 yards and 4 TD's, I want the Chase for Heisman to become a legit campaign. Winning a no-doubter too would be nice.
I have major concerns about Chase holding up if we continue to use him like we did the first 3 games. I love seeing him get well deserved accolades, but I want him strong and healthy for the 2nd half of the season.
