Groce: Took a day off after Wisky game. Opportunity to get together with some guys. Workout yesterday & later today.
Groce: Thought response was good yesterday.
Groce: Defensive rebounding wasn't good enough the other night. Only 12 2nd-chance points. But they were timely buckets.
Groce: Minnesota defense reminds me a lot of Penn State's. Shot blocker in Reggie Lynch. Terrific at protecting the rim.
Groce: Coffey is one of the more talented freshmen in our league. Efficiency is really, really impressive.
Groce: Akeem Springs is a tough kid. Makes open shots. Plays smart. He's really helped them as 5th-year guy.
Groce: We've got to see some traction with preventing 2nd chance opportunities, move the ball better & shot-makers have to step up.
Groce: Minnesota is really talented. They're athletic. What stands out to me is the way that they defend.
Groce: Not as much bite on the ball at the beginning of the Wisconsin game. Close-outs weren't good enough. But they made shots.
Groce: Our defense is getting better. Our offense has to get better. Need to make shots. Need to be more patient on some possessions
Groce: Big difference between disappointment and frustration. Don't want frustration because it clouds your mind.
Groce: We're looking at the substitution pattern. When to sub. Combos that work together. Lineups to avoid. We're looking at it all.
Groce on D.J. & AJ: We're playing the guys that put us in the best position. Based on how they've played & others have played.
Groce: Not really playing at the pace we want to play right now. I'd still like to play faster. Got to run harder.
Groce: Defensively, Lucas has been really good. He fights & battles. Really keeps the ball in front.
Groce on Lucas: Obviously, a gifted passer. Could finish a little bit better. Talking to him about that.

Do you think Groce's comments regarding substitutions implies they are just looking at this now in earnest? That he is just now getting personally involved in that aspect?
What changes do you all expect to see him willing to make?
Personally, I believe 5 of our losses could be attributed to poor substitutions and minutes distribution. This is not even taking into account compounding gains by playing the younger guys more during the non-con.
Just saw something that said Minnesota 2nd in blocks per game.
What's the over/under on Tate drives to the hoop that get swatted away? 7?

Hey Dan, can we get an eye roll emoji?
Kid gets 2 shots a game in 17 minutes, and people act like he's the biggest reason we're bad. Just so unnecessary. If anything, call out Groce for either (1) the missed evaluation or (2) the lack of development. I just don't get why everyone goes in so hard on Tate when he's just a bench guy as-is. It's not like he's demanding more minutes to the media or taking a lot of junk shots (not that anyone is doing the former, but we have, well, most of the roster doing the latter)
We seem to have more chutes than ladders this season.
Shouldn't this be something you have figured out by this point in the season? At this rate you won't get the right rotation till the Big Ten tourney :tsk:
=Head Coach! :thumb:I forgot to include my addendum that I would require a shuffle in assistant coaches. Something to complement Groce's weaknesses (in-game communication to players, player development)+

It was a response to a question at a press conference. I don't think it means that much.
Obviously they've been looking at the rotation for a while now.

This is going to be the legacy of this staff. Reacting way too slowly and sticking to their guns long after it becomes counterproductive. Be it sub patterns, pregames, starters, or presser comments. Why does it seem that we always recognize things before this staff?

Is it me, or is nobody talking about the game this afternoon? Aren't we at this time of day, just six hours before the start of the game, be talking about the game?
In a real world it would.
But we're living in a surreal world.
Only the hardcore care at this point.
