Enjoy having Lovie as the coach, he speaks in a very direct manner and addresses the topics that are important and fans want to hear about. There is too much "coach speak" going around that their pressers turn into abstract topics.

There are things Lovie has made obvious that he will not talk about (details of his schemes, player/coach private conversations) which is understandable. Love the comment about him saying that he is an NFL coach but a rookie college coach. Even my wife who is the opposite of a sports fan thought that was funny. Lovie has made it a career in the NFL in turning bad teams into respectable/good teams.

Illinois IMHO, has relied on too many schemes to counter the lack of talent, size, athleticism. In Lovie's interviews, it appears he wants to build a more traditional and balance NFL type team (fullbacks, TE). The exception being a more dual threat QB.

The exception being a more dual threat QB.

And I am not even sure Lovie wants that. I think he wants a good offense, is thrilled to have hired a good OC and wants to make him comfortable which means getting a dual threat QB. But if DM wanted a pocket passer then Lovie would be fine with that too. Think he just wants cohesion. :thumb:

Now, I imagine Lovie liked what Jaimes brought and saw how that opened up the play book, but Lovie also saw the faults associated with that too. Bottom line is you can win with either if you build your team in the right way.

I agree with you generally here, but I'll take the Juice Williams of the 2007 tOSU game all day long. Passed for 4 TDs and ran the read option to perfection.

I too loved that game and also I loved the leadership Juice gave, but I wouldn't take that season over Kurt Kitner's 2002 Sugar Bowl year. ;) The passing game that year was so precise. Seemed every play and pass was exactly where it had to be. Was great to see. I am not discounting the good OLine either. I think that is exactly what a precision passing game depends on. Well that and receivers that don't drop the ball.

To me, I don't care whether it is a dual threat or a stand up pocket passer like we have now. Just give me a head coach and an OC that knows how to use whichever one we have. The Cubit's didn't, which kind of surprised me after Bill's first year here.

I'll be interested to see how the O-Line does. Got a couple of freshman(one redshirt) although Megginson projects to be good as his career advances. I think if they can protect Lunt, then Lunt has the talent he needs to be productive in his senior year. We always seem to do a good job of producing solid WR's.

I think Des Cain will be a starter before B1G play starts. He really impressed me last year.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's primarily in the slot when we take out the FB or TE. I expect him to have another 35+ catch season.

Uhhhhh did you watch last year?

I think this season goes as our wideouts go. If we have a couple guys step up, the offense might be ok. If not, it could be a painful year offensively.

Wish BTN here was showing Illini instead of PSU. I want to record game so I can watch it Monday afternoon after I get back from elk hunting. I won't have cell phone service Friday - Monday and I don't want the final score to be spoiled before seeing it. The only way I know that won't happen is by recording it live. Stupid xfinity and not have the extra channels like DirecTv

What will our uniform combo be for the Lovie opener? Will it be a statement as to his favorite combo?

You can watch replays on the btn to go app and turn off the scores in settings. You just have to be sure to not look at the social media feed on the left side before you full screen it. But once you get to full screen, smooth sailing. I'm just like you, no spoilers.

Thanks. I'll try this.

WEDNESDAY MORNING GREAT IDEAS

With a 35 point lead early in the third quarter Lovie should attempt a 77 yard field goal. Why? Then you'd have a record - setting place kicker on the roster. That's why.

The wideouts will be better this year. Turner, Cain, Hardee, and our TEs are all capable. I expect Lunt to have plenty of options.

If only we had Dude K .... :tsk:
