Refs need to stop Edey from going over the back on every rebound. Call some fouls. lol

All we need to do is play just a little D and we will out score them. Should be a fun game. I'm taking 2 heart meds pregame.

LOL would love to feel confident in this, but Edey is rarely whistled for fouls (or lane violations for that matter). I think he averages something absurd, like under 3 fouls per 40 minutes. He has not fouled out even one time this season and only has 2 games where he had 4 fouls. For a player who spends 98 percent of his time on the court camped in the lane and looks awkward and off balance as much as he does to only be called for 2 fouls per game is pure insanity to me. He's going to be allowed to camp in the lane on both offense & defense and will be given the benefit of doubt for pushes/shoves, over-the-back, falling down on top of a guy, you name it.

I'll take some heat for this take, I'm sure, but he is officiated basically the opposite of how Kofi was. It almost seemed like when Kofi played that they actively tried to even the playing field with their whistles. Edey is larger than Kofi and also is far slower and more clumsy in his movements, less in control of his own body than Kofi was yet gets called for roughly half the amount of fouls.
Kofi's career high in FT attempts was 205. Edey has taken 319 this season & been whistled for fouls only 55 times. (1.9 fouls per game) He has already been to the line 80 more times this season than last year, despite fewer FG attempts.
They have definitely changed the way they call his games this year.

I don't think that our seeding changes from a 4 unless we have a phenomenal conference tournament run, but we need this one to prove some legitimacy here. The conference, from a national perspective, isn't very good. Two ranked teams. We haven't beaten a top 25 team this year. It'd be nice to have one ...two if we beat them twice.

I’m more confident in this game against Purdue for four reasons:

1). TSJ is back and playing his best basketball
2). We’re at home
3). Ty was supposedly under the weather at Purdue. This game is his chance to prove that was an aberration and he’s up to the task.
4). We figured things out and settled down in the second half and made a great run.
I would be happy if Ty just played at the same level he did at Purdue. He has been steadily trending downwards in all phases of the game since then. You can see his confidence level isn't even where it once was.

Ty hasn't had a good run of it lately. During the year, he was able to get himself to the rim and finish. That's not happening. He's getting stuck and either turns it over and misses badly. With the big guy in the middle, they're begging Ty to shoot. He won't even look at the rim. If he tries to drive, he's going to get stuffed and everyone knows it.

Have to shoot the ball well to have a shot.

One thing Bobby Knight, Coach K, and Bo Ryan knew and executed so well -- if your team makes more free throws than the other team attempts, you're likely to win the basketball game.

They say eyes are the window to the soul, check frankenEdeys eyes when shooting free throws. Quite creepy

I have heard him interviewed a number of times, seems like a pretty good guy.

Which will give me even more satisfaction if we can "beat him like a drum."

Honestly see the key to the game being high ball screens with Edey’s man hitting midrange and 3 point shots. It’s the whole reason drop coverage doesn’t work in the NBA, everyone can hit open shots. Illinois has the shooters to do it. No reason to drive into a stationary object. Take what the defense gives you and don’t stop until they are forced to defend.

In the first matchup, Illinois discovered a 5-shooter lineup got them back into the game (Hawkins-Guerrier-Harmon-Domask-Goode). I'd expect them to lean heavily on a similar lineup (though with TJ instead of Goode), to make Edey guard someone on the perimeter. I'm curious if they can also get Edey in foul trouble again, like they did the first time.

If Ty is in the game Edey will be gaurding him. They were the first team to deploy this tactic against us. Since then it's pretty much standard for other teams to put a big on Ty pretty much limiting his affectivenes.
I’d love to see some action where Ty just goes flying into the lane with a full head of steam w Coleman setting a little pick on Edey so Ty can try for some acrobatic layups. If Edey keeps back pedaling Ty just needs to rush Edey and try to get some fouls on him.
