That's why all of my anger has been placed on the DIA... I am a season ticket holder and I had to endure that the ENTIRE game. It's one thing listening to obnoxious fans, ours and their's, but I shouldn't have to put up with thatPutting the Purdue band where they did just created a sound waive out of the east stands. The overhanging balcony acted as an echo chamber to directionally blast out their sound, while our band was in the open, facing neither stands, with half their sound going up and away. This was a really bad place to put a visiting band. I was in East balcony and never heard the Purdue band play once - because all the sound was funneled away from me.
Every B1G band travels to one road game. Road bands, including ours, play to support their teams. - that's part of the atmosphere. Inviting a band and expecting them not to play is silly. HOWEVER, making it so the road band is dominant is just dumb. I think this is on the DIA more than anyone. They need to put the opposing bands in the horseshoe to balance the sound. Many schools (that sell out) just set up temporary bleachers on the field to do this.
On a side note, our band was playing during live on the field action, which shocked me. That is not supposed to be allowed. The MI were playing right up to a snap multiple times, and played completely through an entire kickoff once. In fact, during the wild snap play, our band was blasting away - which makes it harder on OUR TEAM to hear the snap count. We actually thought the ref's discussion on that one was whether to penalize us for our own band.
