I love that we have been driving to the basket rather than jacking up 3’s since we stink at shooting them. However, Melendez and TSJ passed on a couple of wide open ones late in the second half. Be confident and take the shot.

So proud of the effort in the second half. I'm not complaining, it could have been a different outcome if we had just gotten a foul call on that hand slap by Morton on Shannon near the end. Oh well. The refs weren't too bad once they stopped calling any attempt at defense to be a foul (i.e., Hawkins' first and second fouls).

I wish I knew how high Sencire jumped when he busted up that alley-oop attempt on defense... he looked like he had a jetpack on.

Dain... I hate to say it, but the common thread for Illini runs lately seems to be sitting Dain on the bench. On defense, he is just completely oblivious to anything going on in the game outside of keeping track of his man.

On to the BTT and hopefully another Q1 win or two. Would like another shot at Iowa or Maryland. Just no Jalen Pickett please.

He was faked out and couldn't really do anything on the way down aslt that point. It started with him making a basketball play. It was a hard foul. It didn't need to be flagrant.
I have to take exception to that. He could have done what he could to minimize his foul. Mayer was already going down. Instead he chose to use both hands and shove Mayer to the floor. In my opinion that has to be called a flagrant. At the very least it should be reviewed.

Ok, we have their number, we just showed everyone how to beat PU. If I am an Illini player or coach, I would want another shot at them so badly. Put us in their bracket, please.
Indiana actually beat them twice. I think that mold was already cast. We sucked the 1st half or we could have won by double digits.

Why no second-half intensity for our team when the game starts? We have got to start getting off to better starts

Can't fault this team's effort. We played really hard that 2nd half and made a phenomenal run at it. Really just lacking execution in a few key areas doing us in. First and foremost, we need to do something to change how we come out in games. Our first 4-8 minutes have been consistently abysmal for the past month. Not sure how Underwood gets the 2nd half effort to show up from the get go aside for maybe chewing the team out right before the game, lol, but something needs to change there. We also need to stop shooting the hero ball threes- even if you can make that shot, it doesn't mean you should take that shot, and especially not when you've been getting really high quality looks to get you back in the game.

Special shoutout to Sencire Harris- he was an absolute beast tonight. By far the best player on the court for us and singlehandedly kept us from being down 30 or maybe even 40 at halftime. He was great tonight. Ty was really good as well, and Luke and RJ added a lot today. I loved our 2nd half effort. Loved it. But really difficult to play 16 minutes of bad basketball in the first half and expect to come back. That said, we were there, and then those bad decisions and poor hero ball came back to finish us off. Just who we are at this point unfortunately.

Hoping we can put a few solid games together in the BTT, but gotta show up from the tip. It's nice to know you can come back from 20pt deficits, but you don't want to try doing it in one and done tourneys.

Matthew Mayer does a lot of good things, but I'm not sure he is a winning player. We have seen him take bad shot after bad shot in critical situations, and they very rarely go in. At times, it still doesn't feel like this team is all pulling on the same rope.
Some of his bad shots throughout the course of the game I'm OK with but I agree, towards the end of the game he has to be more aware. I heard him say in an interview something along the lines of "My job is to chuck threes and play good defense" and just made me shake my head. The dude is so gifted handling the ball at his size, that if he would have the presence of mind to drive more, especially when his shot isn't falling, he'd be so much better. Not sure if its a lack of basketball IQ or selfishness. I'd tend to lean towards IQ as he's on a new role as a leader on a new team but idk.

You’re gonna miss him next year. He can get a !!!! at anytime and has kept us in a ton of games on his own.
I am not going to miss him, even if the good outweighs the bad. He was 1-10 from three today and still took it upon himself to (try) and take two horrid ISO threes in the last minute of the game.

I don’t get how this kid has a halo.

When you get down 24, you leave no margin for error. We played about a 98% perfect second half but needed 100% to win. Good news is we are done with road games. Bad news is teams in that tourney will come out with energy and we’ve got to figure out a way to find some energy early.

Hopefully they’ve learned a lesson but this has been their MO all year. They are what they are but they are still capable of beating anyone if they bring it. Will see if they do.

I saw that too. Nothing called. The guys on FOX said nothing either. He was already going down and EDEY shoved him hard. If Matt plays Thursday, it will be nothing short of a miracle. Hopefully we can get all of our guys back.
