Painter said anytime the player is not jumping for the ball it is called. Didn’t have a problem with the call.

Last year's team did exactly the same thing that happened yesterday. They went down 22 at half, then came back to actually take a lead. They did that more than a couple of times. That team has flaws, but coming back in seconds halves wasn't one of them.

I was thinking about Hawkins 3 that was called no shot because of the time clock violation. I thought that we had Smith n Loyer frustrated in the second half. On to the MSU game.
Measuring stick game, pure and simple. Have to be better for entire duration of game and not just at times. Purdue is on the high perch right now... and Illini have to pick up their game to knock the Troublemak... er, the Boilermakers off that perch.
The interesting thing right now is how Illini Nation on these pages are reacting. Lots of positivity and love for The Beloved. Not a lot of doom and panic. Nice to see some good general vibes among us fanatics and keeping things in perspective.
The Illini being a veteran team should work well for them going forward. These guys know what’s at stake. Some will not be playing college ball next year and they know this year is it. They know they have to up their game as they have been put in their place by a another team that is feeling pretty good about themselves.
It’s the Illini’s job to make sure that by the time the season is over... that other team is NOT feeling good about themselves.
And the crowd on the road is always funny. Any crowd on the road -- it's always the same. They always act real cocky and arrogant and happy when their home team is rolling. And when their opponent (in this case, Our Guys) make a run and get really close... the home crowd gets real nervous and begins to panic. Happens every time. And I love when it does. For those who get nervous... They show that their belief in their team runs pretty shallow when they do that. If you really believe in your team you wouldn’t do that.
It’s like when you’re playing organized ball or just ballin' out at the park blacktop. You NEVER show panic or fear to those guys you’re up against. That feeds them and gets them off. You just go about your own business and never show weakness... ‘cause if you do you are FINISHED.
You are either the master of your fate... or just a constant slave to it.

I am happy with the effort and can't wait for a rematch in Champaign, and I think we have a great team. And I am saying all that 'cause what is still nagging me from last night is the start of the game.
Those first 8 minutes can't happen again like that versus Purdue. I was surprised Brad took so long to adjust to Edey "guarding" Ty and I kept thinking he would call a timeout to fix it, but we just kept rolling with it while the Purdue lead grew, even after the first media timeout. And then, IIRC, we went back to the same lineup at the beginning of the second half, too.
Someone asked and I don't think I saw an answer: What does Ty look like shooting unguarded jump shots in practice? Are they really so bad that he would just refuse to ever shoot in a game? Or did he make a deal with the devil that would give him incredible athleticism and rebounding ability in exchange for never being able to shoot a jumper ever again?
If anyone can give Ty some advice, I would think it would be Chester, but I would love if they can figure something out that does not involve just benching Ty. He is too valuable in everything else he does.

Classic example of moving under a player into his space after he leaves the floor. Jones moved laterally to get there. No other way to call that. One can quibble forever, and it does not matter. That was Q's allotted landing area and Jones moves into it while Q was in the air. Had Jones stayed solid in blocking out, there would have been no call. If Q had floated over Jones while he was solidly implanted, Q would have been called. This is not an arguable play.
Players aren’t supposed to be trying to displace opposing players during a box out, as that is explicitly against the rules. Like another poster said, if he held firm there would have been either no call or if there was one it most likely would have gone to Quincy.

The rule is needed to protect the players in the air. In my soph. year of HS in Illinois, I had that happen to me. At the time, I was starting for a top 10 ranked team. The injury put me on the bench for the rest of the season.
When you leave the floor, your instincts prepare you for the landing. But when your feet and legs are taken out, you are instantaneously put into a blender with no idea where you are landing or on what part of the body. Serious injuries are the result way too often. Blocking out is one thing, undercutting is a completely different animal.

Purdue fans are idiots -- they prove it every game. That's probably why Purdue thinks they need to run an ad listing all of their university's published rankings and temper public opinion.

Yup, first half we looked like a different team. Not aggressive enough so got killed on the glass. The guys seemed very anxious which impacted their play and decision making. Really impacted their shots in the 1st half too, imo
I can’t help but think what a difference Sencire would have made in that game - just his ball hawking defensive intensity would have helped immensely
If it becomes clear TSJ is out for the year - I wonder if they would consider playing Sencire this year. He brings an element this team is missing right now. And this is a good team that can go places this year
