About the Maple Leafs: Toronto is 18-4-1 at home this season and hasn’t lost at Scotiabank since Dec. 9 against Tampa Bay. This will be the Leafs’ second game with seating capacity increased to 50 percent (roughly 10,000) as COVID protocols are relaxed in the province of Ontario. At 32-12-3, Toronto is one of three heavyweights in the Atlantic, chasing Florida and Tampa Bay for the division lead.
The Maple Leafs rank among the NHL’s top six in scoring (fourth, 3.60 goals per game), defense (fifth, 2.66 goals allowed), power play (first, 31.8 percent) and penalty kill (sixth, 84.4 percent). Their power play has been especially hot lately, scoring on 11 of their last 25 opportunities (44 percent). They’re also the league’s top faceoff team, with a 56.0 percent success rate. Auston Matthews has 33 goals, which was tied for second in the league entering the weekend. Mitchell Marner has 11 goals and 13 assists in his last 12 games.
Flat performances against bad teams and a questionable road record need to be addressed.

February was supposed to be a feast, remember?
Between the Blues’ return last week from their final pause before the postseason push and this month’s finale against the flailing Blackhawks, coach Craig Berube’s team, as of Friday’s standings, will have played seven of their eight games in the month against opponents that are ranked sixth or lower in their respective divisions.
Four games in, the Blues are guilty of falling asleep during the first course.
Their elbow has slipped from the table. Their head has drooped toward the plate. If they don’t snap out of it soon, they could wind up with egg on their face.
Maybe losing to lowly New Jersey on the night of Berube’s contract extension celebration can be attributed to hints of rust that collected during that odd 10-day stretch without a game.
That appeared to be the case when the Blues did what good teams are supposed to do — win without much trouble — against the bumbling Blackhawks at home, and again on the road against the sinking Senators.
