St. Louis Blues 22-23

Not resigning perron has hurt the Blues worse than Armstrong even thought it would be.........Leddy is ok on D and skates so smoothly but the Blues lack that down low corners and board work that Perron did so well.....

I can't remember a Blues team in all my years being a fan (since 1967, their first year ) giving up so many back door goals.....
Thomas was late defending his man and it ended up in the net........Binner is not having a great season , but a lot of the goals are not his fault........The Blues have given up on being that physical team and are backpedaling too much at our blue line resulting in more puck control by the opponents resulting oin more goals against us......

it might be getting close to a readjustment of the roster with ROR and Tarasenko moving on......But . the salary cap issues means we have to take back similar contracts instead of going all in on draft pick accumulation..........

I think the Blues sneak into the playoffs but get bounced in the first round...........
Not bringing back Maroon and Perron hurt. I get Perron because it was a crunch with the numbers but that was a blow to fans. Maroon would have re-signed with us but no offer and went to Tampa Bay for $900k. Those guys had heart and wouldn't be afraid to get in front of the net and take/deliver some hits. The one thing I don't get is Tarasenko doesn't want to be here and we could have traded him off last offseason and re-signed Perron.

The thing I love about St Louis teams is the fanbase has passion. Teams here don't tank(unless the owner is Kroenke). I would love to see them get something for Tarasenko and/or O'Reilly without them walking away for nothing. We will get money off the books but there is some value in these guys for contenders.

Lost 5th game in a row tonight

All Star game is Feb 4th and Blues are off until Feb 11th

Writing is on the wall and rumors will be heating up even more now to trade away some pieces...

And with what Canucks got for Horvat, you'd think the Blues would be able to get more for ROR or Tarasenko.
Horvat is in his prime, younger and having real good season. Having him traded this early might bring more value for one of our guys. I would love if we got anything close to what the Islanders gave up. The good thing is there will be teams calling and we will be dealing.

Picks/prospects are a necessity. Blues would be crazy not to cover half or decent amount of salary on either of those guys for this season to get more capital in return.

Bunch of teams are asking about Barbashev. I hope the Blues can work out an extension but FA after this season so will see what happens.

And . . . the great Retooling of 2023 is underway for the Blues.
General manager Doug Armstrong sent Vladimir Tarasenko and Niko Mikkola to the New York Rangers for our old friend Sammy Blais, a first-round pick (likely in 2023), a fourth-round pick likely to upgrade to a third-round pick in ‘24, and fringe defensive prospect Hunter Skinner.

Pru we might need some Walken over here on the Blues thread (y)

Rangers have their own 1st rounder and Stars 1st rounder this season....Blues will get the lower one of these picks(unless Stars collapse)

Stltoday paper made a big deal about Armstrong never paying anything of traded player's contract
Until NOW .....
I think the Blues got fleeced , but there's plenty of player's available so maybe took the best they thought they would get.

If they waited they might have gotten more for Tarasenko. You are risking 2 things on him though....he had a no trade clause and injury prone. Might have wanted to trade him off before they start back up in a few days. I look at it like he was walking away at the end of the season and we got something out of it. Draft is pretty solid this year whether we keep pick or trade it later on.

While it stinks that Vlady is leaving, the move was expected. I'll still appreciate what he did for the franchise. I'll still wear the Tarasenko 3rd jersey I got in the mail the day of Game 7 of the Cup final in 2019. And, assuming he stays healthy, he'll have his first game back in St. Louis on April 6.

Jim Thomas
Acaptain returning from injury and winning a hockey game in perhaps his final go-around with the team.
A long scoring drought ended by a new, old Blue.
A late-blooming defenseman who keeps pushing to be an every-game player in the NHL.
And the start of a new era in Blues hockey, without Vladimir Tarasenko on the roster for the first time in 11 seasons.

Tarasenko knew he was going to be traded when the team didn't offer him a contract extension:

Tarasenko can spin it however he wants but the Blues aren't going to offer him a contract when he asks to be traded and never rescinds that notice. He was never going to re-sign with the Blues. Reason Blues didn't trade him earlier is because they had a contender last season and were seeing about the competitive level of the team this year. I appreciate Tarasenko for his time with the Blues and he handled it professionally even when he did want to be traded off this team.

Robert Thomas isn’t going anywhere in the next decade — except across the dressing room.
When the Blues returned from the All-Star break on Saturday against Arizona, Thomas found himself in a new stall in the dressing room at Enterprise Center. It was the one formerly occupied by Vladimir Tarasenko, who was traded to the Rangers last week.
“I kind of wanted a new one for a little while. Unfortunately, that was the way it kind of worked out.”
Thomas’ old spot at the arena put him squarely in the middle of the circular end of the Blues’ horseshoe-shaped dressing room. It was almost the farthest spot from the ice, from the board at the head of the room, from some of his teammates.

“I was so far away from everything,” he said.
While his new spot in Tarasenko’s old, more central stall (in the middle of the room beside captain Ryan O’Reilly) is more of a functional change, it could serve a more symbolic purpose for Thomas’ role in the franchise moving forward. His eight-year contract extension will begin next season, and he’ll be the face of the franchise for the next decade, the top-line center entering his prime years.

Brayden Schenn scored two goals and the Blues halted the surging Panthers during a 6-2 win on Tuesday night at Enterprise Center.
The win was the Blues’ second in as many games since the All-Star break, and handed Florida just its second loss in the last six games. St. Louis (25-25-3) returned to .500 after it dipped two games below at the break. It is also .500 at home (12-12-2) and .500 on the road (13-13-1).
It was Schenn’s first multi-goal game since Jan. 8 at Minnesota and gave him four points in two games this week. He was aiming for his first hat trick since Dec. 5, 2017, at Montreal, which was his only hat trick with the Blues.
Jordan Binnington made 34 saves to earn the win.

Schenn’s first goal was originally credited to Torey Krug on the power play after Krug banked a shot off the boards behind the net, and it rebounded off the back of Florida goaltender Spencer Knight’s right skate. But the goal was switched to Schenn during the intermission because it ticked off of him before tapping Knight.

The schedule and the standings are difficult to ignore — the dwindling number of games before the trade deadline, the increasing improbability of a Blues postseason berth.
But the Blues will try their best to close their eyes to their status in the West, and Tuesday’s 6-2 win over the Panthers was their latest chance to give it a shot.
“Just kind of playing for one another right now and playing hard,” Blues forward Brayden Schenn said. “Just worrying about one game at a time. That’s really all you can focus on. I know it’s a cliché answer, but that’s the reality and that’s the position we’re in and we go game by game now. And try to grab two points each night.”

Schenn scored twice for the Blues, Ivan Barbashev notched a three-point night and Jordan Binnington made 34 saves as St. Louis climbed back to .500 with the win over Florida. The Blues are now 25-25-3 overall, a mark that includes a 12-12-2 record at home and a 13-13-1 record on the road.

ST. LOUIS — Sometimes it’s not who you play, but when you play them.
On Saturday, the Blues caught Arizona playing the second game of a back-to-back and minus coveted defenseman Jakob Chychrun, who’s sitting things out for “trade-related” purposes these days. They won 6-5 in overtime.
On Tuesday, the Blues caught Florida playing the second game of a back-to-back and minus goalie Sergei Bobrovsky — who has been red-hot lately but got the night off. They won 6-2.
On Thursday, they got the New Jersey Devils without star forward Jack Hughes, who’s fourth in the league in goals but is sidelined with an upper-body injury. And they missed goalie Vitek Vanecek (23-5-3 record/2.31 goals-against), who took the night off. And yes, they won 4-2.

So it’s three victories since the All-Star game/bye week break for the Blues, who climbed back above .500 for the season at 26-25-3.
