obviously means nothing, just floating a name out there, because it happens every year around June. “We need a bat”
I get what you are saying but I have a hard time with the concept "We need a bat". St Lou HAS bats. They need to produce. Less than 1/4 of the season has been played.
Arenado a career 292/349/540 hitter is 279/336/507. They are close but he is still under performing his career average.
Goldy 292/390/519 is 245/286/410
DeJong 246/316/450 is 180/281/377
O'Neill 231/288/433 238/270/438
Edman is doing fine. Carlson is a rookie. Molina is exceeding expectations.
Of their regular 8 starters they will not replace Arenado, Goldy, Yadi, Edman and probably not Carlson unless he was hitting below 200. Bader's defense makes him nearly indispensable. Last night his defense helped win the game. Without it they probably wouldn't have made it to extra innings.
DeJong is struggling. I can't remember but I think he typically gets off to a slow start. And at best he is a streak hitter. There are probably only a few SS that would be an up grade.
That leaves ONeill. The suggestion of trading prime minor leaguers for him doesn't make sense. The Cards didn't have to do that to get Arenado. Why should they do it for Mancini? Even so, the difference in Mancini and ONeill doesn't merit giving up Libratore or Gorman
