Albert was DFA'ed today. I hope the Cards can pick him up and send him out as a Cardinal. (I have no hard feelings for him. He is still El Hombre to me)
No DH in the NL. From the same ESPN story:
One potential landing spot could be the Chicago White Sox, managed by Tony La Russa, who still reveres Pujols so much that he intentionally walked him in a big spot earlier this season. The White Sox have been decimated by injuries and could have an opening for Pujols to get some playing time on a contender.

Big article in the Post-Dispatch today on why this would be a bad idea. His hitting is glaringly anemic and nostalgia will only last a short while.
And for me, yes, there are hard feelings considering the way he left.

Agreed. I'd be ok with a one-day contract if he were retiring, but he still wants to play. He's -0.5 WAR on the season, and that's in a DH role (i.e. he didn't have to be a defensive liability).

So who is ready for our offense to get completely shutdown today and score like 2 runs.

There is some talk now that Cleveland may be the best fit for Pujols. Their two young first basemen (Bauers and Cheng) are hitting .204 and .140 respectively, and perhaps the Indians might be willing to take a chance on Albert.

The Indians offense is god awful as it is so why the heck not I guess.

Looking toward the future, how good would Trey Mancini look in this STL lineup come June or July? He is 29, the O’s are in a rebuild with a ton of young talent, do they re up him or continue on the youth trend? Also, what would it take. I’d be comfortable giving Libatore or even Gorman for him.

As much as I'd be okay with this happening, I think O'Neill's production would really have to slip for them to make that move. Mancini won't play at 1st with Goldy there. Bader is gonna play CF unless he's hurt because of how good a defender he is and Mancini's not gonna supplant Carlson in right.

I'm sure not ready to trade Libratore or Gorman for most anyone at this point.

Plug him him in a corner outfield spot. Mancini, Bader, and Carlson and never tinker with it again. Let the man rake in the middle of the lineup.

I haven't read this whole thread, but can we at least start the discussion of getting a new hitting coach! We have 4 out of the top 30 in strikeouts. We look like we have no plan, whatsoever, when going to the plate. Taking thigh high fastballs down the middle and swinging at sliders in the dirt. I know we are in 1st and should be happy, but at some point this offense is going to kill us!!

It's the new way of playing baseball. I hate it but whatcha gonna do? Batting average and OBP are not much to get excited about. 12th and 19th respectively. But slugging is 9th. I guess that's why they score most of their runs via the home run.
Tampa has the most strikeouts with 373. STL is 19th with 291. Mets the fewest @238. Walks only 22nd.
The thing is, I would be very reluctant to switch mid season. I don't think we would get the results we want.
I am learning to live with the frustration of failed at bats.

They just said on tv that they lead the league in fewest strikeouts for the month of May. They’ve been striking out for years now. Don’t think a change would matter.

50% of our outs are on strikeouts so far tonight.

Goldy hasn't looked anything like he did in Arizona since he arrived. I would throw a fastball down the middle of plate pitch 1, sliders, and curves the rest of the at bat. Oh wait, that's what everyone does and he strikes out on sliders in the other box constantly

Not Giorgi, but amazing how many times they are in double digits in strikeouts for a game.

Ok, then what do you do with O'Neill?
If we think TON is half the player Mancini is, we have problems. I hope TON proves me wrong in his age 26 season, but I’ll take Mancini every day and every year. He obviously isn’t a GG in the outfield, but if you look up his outfield defensive stats specifically 2019 before his lost season to cancer, he is fine. I like this kid and as soon as he gets a chance on a good team, people will find out who he is.

obviously means nothing, just floating a name out there, because it happens every year around June. “We need a bat”

I get what you are saying but I have a hard time with the concept "We need a bat". St Lou HAS bats. They need to produce. Less than 1/4 of the season has been played.

Arenado a career 292/349/540 hitter is 279/336/507. They are close but he is still under performing his career average.
Goldy 292/390/519 is 245/286/410
DeJong 246/316/450 is 180/281/377
O'Neill 231/288/433 238/270/438

Edman is doing fine. Carlson is a rookie. Molina is exceeding expectations.

Of their regular 8 starters they will not replace Arenado, Goldy, Yadi, Edman and probably not Carlson unless he was hitting below 200. Bader's defense makes him nearly indispensable. Last night his defense helped win the game. Without it they probably wouldn't have made it to extra innings.
DeJong is struggling. I can't remember but I think he typically gets off to a slow start. And at best he is a streak hitter. There are probably only a few SS that would be an up grade.
That leaves ONeill. The suggestion of trading prime minor leaguers for him doesn't make sense. The Cards didn't have to do that to get Arenado. Why should they do it for Mancini? Even so, the difference in Mancini and ONeill doesn't merit giving up Libratore or Gorman

The Birds' hitting has been inconsistent to say the least. But the team is still currently 4th in the league in runs scored, behind only the Dodgers, Diamondbacks, and Reds. And hopefully the bats will become a little more consistent as the season progresses. The potential is certainly there.
