Haven't sen anything posted on this but six Cardinals are finalists (top 3) for gold gloves, winners will be announced tonight. Yadi, Goldy, Edman (up agaisnt former Cardinal and 2x winner Wong), Arenado, TON, and Bader. Bader is expected to win his first GG (though it should probably be his 3rd), and everyone else but Edman has won the award before. Arenado has won the GG at third every year he's been in the majors, which is just insane.

And the Cards win 5 Gold Gloves! Goldschmidt (4th), Edman (1st), Arenado (9th), O'Neill (2nd) and Bader (1st). Yadi was the only Cards player to be nominated but fail to win. Fives Gold Gloves from one team in a season is a new MLB record!

I came to post the news and saw juiceman beat me to it. Incredible. Very proud of this team. Bummer to see Yadi left off the list but I get it. This is especially cool for Edman and Bader as it’s their first.

Until the Cardinals righted themselves with a stunning winning streak of 17 games in September, their rollercoaster of a season had featured inconsistent clutch hitting, a raft of starting pitching injuries and a significant change in closers. But, throughout the many ebbs and flows, there was a constant. The Cardinals almost always caught the ball and threw it straight.
The Rawlings Gold Glove voters sanctioned that important piece of the Cardinals’ game Sunday night as the Cardinals were rewarded with five Gold Gloves, a major league record for one team in one season. That means the rest of the 14 National League teams had a total of four Gold Gloves this year.

Second baseman Tommy Edman, who beat out former teammate and mentor Kolten Wong of Milwaukee in Edman’s first year as a full-time second baseman, and center fielder Harrison Bader came to the party for the first time, capturing their initial Gold Gloves for the Cardinals. Third baseman Nolan Arenado earned his ninth in succession (the first eight came with Colorado), first baseman Paul Goldschmidt won his fourth but first since 2017 and left fielder Tyler O’Neill his second in succession.

The Cardinals had had four Gold Glove winners on three occasions. In 1963, first baseman Bill White, third baseman Ken Boyer, outfielder Curt Flood and pitcher Bobby Shantz were all winners.

In 2002-03, the Cardinals had four Golds each year. Center fielder Jim Edmonds, third baseman Scott Rolen and shortstop Edgar Renteria were honored in each season while second baseman Fernando Vina won in 2002 and catcher Mike Matheny was golden in 2003.

I've never been a fan of the whole "MVP has to be on a playoff team" thing, because the best player is the most valuable player, even if the rest of his team stinks, but still kinda weird to see all six MVP finalists be from non-playoff teams. All very deserving candidates though. Will be interesting to see where TON and Goldy ended up placing in the voting.

Interesting interview with Mo amd Girsch on the Athletic ($):

Trying to read between the lines here, pitching seems to be the priority for free agency, and they're going to look at SS options, but it looks like there's a chance we don't sign any of the big names. When asked about shortstops they bring up Nolan Gorman and you can tell they're concerned about blocking him. I almost wonder if the strategy they're contemplating is moving Edman over to SS to make room for Gorman at 2nd?

Nolan has never played SS. He does have 77 games at 2B which is not much but it will help. If the NL goes to the DH he might be the guy they use. (In addition to 3B and 2B on occasion.)
My guess is they leave Sosa and DeJong at SS. With Edman getting a GG at 2B, they may leave him there as well.

SS is still a concern in that situation, but overall good problems to have. I recall talk of moving Edman to the OF to make room for Gorman at 2B, but now all our OF's have proven themselves and seem locked in to their positions for the next couple seasons at least.

That seems likely in the short term and maybe middle term if DeJong finds his old form, but I wouldn't count on that. Sosa did well, but he's really a utility guy moreso than an every day option. If DeJong continues to struggle I imagine a lineup that contains both Edman and Gorman, plus a power bat like Yepez or Luken Baker at DH, could be pretty tempting.

Edit: not to mention Nootbar as another guy to consider in the DH competition

Marcus had the second best year in his career last season. War of 3.4 despite a losing record with the Mets. Still $23 million a season feels like an awful lot to me but then I'm old. $23 million seems like a lot even if you have Max Scherzer or Gerrit Cole.

Haven't seen any confirmation of that tweet I posted earlier so take it with a grain of salt. I think Stroman is a prime candidate for being the kind of pitcher that completely breaks out upon signing with the Cardinals. He's a perfect fit for Busch stadium and the Cards defense. He's a pitch to contact type that would benefit from the multiple Gold Glove defenders behind him. I would personally love this signing.

Agreed, not seeing anything. See some indications of interest but nothing to indicate a deal. Also some rumors about Steven Matz who would be a little underwhelming in my opinion.

I was a little skeptical when I couldn't get a second source.
