Cardinals now carrying 3 catchers after Tres Barrera was called up from Memphis. Contreras to mainly DH while also getting some work in the outfield and still catching every so often. Knizner will be the primary catcher going forward. Barrera allows them to not lose their DH if they decide to pinch hit for Knizner late in a game and have Contreras catch.

If we just wanted a solid defensive catcher and a DH, we certainly could have gotten that without signing Contreras. We have plenty of potential DHs already on the team. And why put Knizner's bat in the lineup everyday? This is a head scratcher to me.

My hunch is that Knizner is better calling a game behind the plate than Contreras has shown at this point. I think like 4 or 5 of the games that the Cardinals have won have been when Knizner was starting at catcher.

Longest losing streak for Cardinals since they lost nine straight in September 2007. First time they've been at least 14 games under .500 since they finished 16 under .500 at the end of the 1997 season.

I had a first communion to attend today, what'd I miss?
Also, has it been discussed as to why we went through so much change on the coaching staff? Maddux has me the most perplexed and then we bringg a guy in from I think Duke. I love this organization, but I think they have gotten too cute the past 5 years or so and it is catching up. Our sh*t does stink. I hope they start acting like it and get back to putting a world class product on the field.

Sorry for the text wall here, but while I'm at it. The Central division is a cake walk, it really is. The only threat long term is the Cubs and until they start acting like a major market team, there is absolutely zero threat in this division. But, here we are with the 3rd worst record in the league.

There are 30 catchers in the league that can call a better game than Contreras. Why do you think the Cub’s starting staff has improved on every matrix so far this year. I was so glad when we let WC go. 243 hitter with Wrigley power. He is the Cards multi million dollar problem now.

the Cards are indeed feeling the effects of playing without Molina calling the pitches behind the plate, and we Cub fans knew that was a big weakness in Contreras' game

Does that also mean Cubs fans will treat him as a traitor and boo him prior to his first AB at Wrigley tomorrow night?
I’ll never forget his home run in his first at bat as a Cub, and while he was his liabilities as catcher calling pitches ,and I never saw anyone with a better snap throw to first while on one of his knees , nor his frozen rope throws to second base
