Try being at the game....at least unlimited food and drink in UMB Champions Club
No idea what the cost is, but I had the chance to experience that a few weeks ago. That’s flying first class.

I've been a diehard fan of the Cardinals since (are you ready for this?) 1952, and I don't ever remember a more frustrating, disappointing season than this one. Play has deteriorated so much in all phases of the game that at least some of the blame, IMO, has to be given to the manager and his coaches.

Their .413 winning percentage (assuming they lose tonight) would be their worst winning percentage since 1919 if carried out for the whole season.

I'm much younger than you but I remember some of those early 90s Cardinals teams being really frustrating to watch.

And while I get people wanting to blame Oli and the coaches (and it is warranted), none of them can swing a bat or throw a pitch.

Has the coaching staff adjusted any of the batter's swings or the pitchers approach? If so it may be on them at least in part.

Recent past history will tell us that many of these names will not be considered. I hope they are considered. Three in house hires with no major league managerial experience has resulted in what the Redbirds are today. My view is very simple, and I have expressed it before. If Marmol is fired during the season, name an interim and hire the best qualified person in the offseason.

I agree with most of this take especially the last line if would happen. I don't agree with the take in bold at all. Cards have been a consistent winner, even 93-69 last season under Marmol in his first season. Cardinals have not been this bad in a season for many years. Same thing has been going on for years....build around Goldy and Arenado. Management has messed that up with our pitching staff and overload of utility players.

rain delay against the Yankees and the Cardinal Countdown is bringing back so many memories

game rained out tonight...............................doubleheader tomorrow 1:15pm and 6:15pm........................

I would say this. Two years ago the Cardinals were essentially dead in the water until a historic 17 game winning streak turned the season around. The fact is despite making the playoffs, the Cardinals have been an early exit the last two years. Are we at the point where making the playoffs is the ultimate goal? Pitching has been an issue, and management and ownership have not addressed this issue adequately in my view. If the Cardinals go on another 17 game winning streak they will be right back in the mix. I am tired of seeing field managers, who need training wheels.

I agree with management has not issued certain areas adequately at all. Keep hearing that management doesn't want a rebuild but a re-tool. I will believe that when I see it.

Traded off some pitching prospects years ago that would be under team control for years now and be the #1 and #2 starter on this team. They have to address starting pitching likely through trade and free agency.

Gorman just turned 23, while Jordan Walker and Masyn Winn are 21. I have no problem with some growing pains whether it be in the field or at the plate with these guys. We will need much better pitching if throwing these guys to the field next season. Problem I have is the surplus of utility players and so called 5 MLB ready OFs that were mentioned before the season started. Injuries have been huge this season, same time we are getting the same results when healthy.

I am not recommending one specific move but think we need to look at expiring contracts and moving them for something if they don't plan on bringing them back. Management drilled it on Goldy and Arenado trades but have been lackluster with a number of other trades and free agent signings.

I agree that many of the names on the list that KC put together late last season won't be considered. I wouldn't want at least 5 or 6 of them either. I threw it together in a hurry and didn't say who I thought would be the best candidates.

THATS A WINNER..........Cardinals win first game of doubleheader 11-4..........Flaherty looked good , 6 innings and he is saying now in post game that he started attacking from first pitch instead of going to the mound trying to get a feel for the game....Knizner was also saying jack was the old Jack............we need the old Jack for the rest of the season........

Reds lost today to the Padres so we need to win this second game and shave 1 1/2 games off the standings..................

Cardinals sending out Liberatore and the Yankees are doing that bullpen thingy......................

Cardinals have never seemed to do well against "that bullpen thingy".

I can't say what is true and what is not. If WIllson didn't know what pitches to call that is a head scratcher. I would say some of it is his fault. Some of it is the pitcher's fault. I would think it is up to the pitcher and him to communicate. They should talk about how the pitcher likes to approach the game. How the pitcher wants to approach a particular batter. Some of the blame belongs to Oli and the pitching coach Dusty Blake. They HAVE to know exactly what Contreras knows and doesn't know. The team shouldn't have left Jupiter without knowing.

Brand new info on Willson Contreras demotion vindicates Oli Marmol

Willson Contreras was demoted by the Cardinals earlier this season, losing his starting catcher job. More details on why are a horrible look for the catcher.

Willson Contreras has had a miserable first year with the St. Louis Cardinals. After signing a contract with the Cardinals this offseason and making the trek over from the division rival Chicago Cubs down to Missouri, he has struggled both behind the plate and offensively. His OPS+ is 84 this year after sitting at 127 last year.

Early in the year, Contreras was removed from his role as the starting catcher, the very role that the Cardinals had just signed him to replace longtime star Yadier Molina for. At the time, it reeked of poor managing and coaching from Oli Marmol and his staff and perhaps even scapegoating Contreras, but the more we learn, the more it feels like Contreras dug his own grave.

Clearly, he was entirely unprepared to be a Cardinal this season. Marmol hasn’t made all the right decisions this year, but removing Contreras from his starting catcher role for a time was clearly justified.

Michael Kay reports that Willson Contreras was calling pitches that pitchers don’t throw

Michael Kay, play-by-play broadcaster for Yankees games on the YES Network, revealed that he has heard from Cardinals people that Contreras was removed from his role as starting catcher because he was calling pitches outside of the arsenals of Cardinals pitchers.

“I found out something, I was talking to a lot of the Cardinal people. The reason that they took Contreras out from behind the plate, he was calling pitches that the pitcher on the mound didn’t have… He would be calling for a cutter, for a pitcher that didn’t throw a cutter. The pitchers were going crazy.”

It tracks, considering we learned Jack Flaherty was vocal in complaining about Contreras, leading to his removal. Flaherty said the pitchers were throwing things that didn’t, “make sense.”

Out-of-arsenal pitches are certainly nonsensical.

Kay’s partner for the afternoon, Jeff Nelson, was incredulous to hear it, not only because it’s unheard of for a professional catcher to repeatedly make such a mistake, but because of where Contreras came from.

Nelson pointed out that Contreras should have known these pitchers well because Contreras faced them as a batter several times as a division rival over the years. Not only that, he batted a .933 OPS against St. Louis in 2022!

Either he was entirely lucky or completely wiped the scouting reports from his memory coming into this year.

It makes his struggles all the more confounding. We have to consider one variable that was introduced in 2023 as well: The pitch clock. It still doesn’t excuse Contreras’s missteps, but perhaps the element of being rushed by the timer was a tough adjustment for Contreras, leading to mental lapses in calling for pitches.

How's the wife doing , bro ?
It's a process. Thanks for asking.
She went through I call Big Chemo. surgery and radiation. She is "technically" cancer free but still has to finish the process.
She still has a smaller chemo ( only one type of chemo instead of 3 or 4.) This chemo targets enzymes or hormones that the cancer fed off of.
She is still tired. Has neuropathy because of her treatment. We can see the end in sight. December can't get here fast enough for us. Then it's all pills instead of making a trip to the clinic every 3 weeks.

Call me crazy but I think we could get quite a bit of young controllable pitching talent by trading dudes in their walk years. Flaherty & Montgomery, while arguably 2 of the best pitchers, are not likely to re-sign and could fetch some talent in return. Should be many buyers at the deadline so that whole supply & demand thing could work in our favor. Hicks and even BroNeil could return us some controllable talent.

I hate to say it, but the worst thing for the long term could be if we started making a legit run. Keep stinking it up, and change is staring us in the face.

Maybe Mo could find a way to even pull in RayJ /s
