The umpiring this year continues as the worst I've seen in a long number of years........Walker was called out initially on a stolen base chance and replay showed he was never tagged and it wasn't even close .......home plate ump is calling everything a strike if it doesn't hit the dirt.......Terrible calls abound..............................

I'm a bit more of a traditionalist when it comes to this stuff, but these umpires are making it a self-fulling prophecy. The automated strike zone is coming...

THATS A WINNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cardinals win 7-5 over the A's...........................

Goldie with a 2 run HR , finally breaking the 60 RBI threshold @ 61..........on base 5 times tonight....
Jordan Walker with a 3 run triple ...........first triple in his young career...........
Mikolas was better than stats show...........
Gallegos gave up the lead , but got the victory on his birthday........unimpressive performance..................
Jo Jo Romero closed it out for his 3rd save, striking out 2 in the top of the 9th...............

missed the triple (my brother called 😑). They said that Gallegos would be added to the long list of pitchers that blew a save on their birthday (and it was quite a list). Glad it worked out on the end.

This portion of the article explains a lot of my frustration...........

TALKIN’ BASEBALL

Here is what folks are writing about Our National Pastime:

Patrick Dubuque. Baseball Prospectus: “The Cardinals have the fifth-highest DRC+ in baseball, at 107. They’re 13th in runs scored, with 4.7. It isn’t really a Padres-level, load-the-bases-with-no-outs-and-strand-them level of clutch hitting; the team does fine with runners on, and fine in high-leverage situations. They’re just not producing at the level that their batted ball and plate discipline data would suggest. The outfield, in particular, has underperformed their peripherals almost to a man, with the exception of Lars Nootbaar. But while that overstocked, over-promising outfield has been the center of attention all season, a constant wellspring of trade talk, demotions, and playing time shuffles, it’s actually been the two tentpoles of the offense in (Paul) Goldschmidt and (Nolan) Arenado that have disappointed the most. Last year’s MVP, nearing his 36th birthday, is suffering from a power outage despite a lack of glaring shifts in his plate discipline or Statcast metrics. One signal that the bat speed might be wavering: Goldy’s only pulling the ball 32.3% of the time this year, and he’s struggling with heat, slugging just .421 on fastballs (and whiffing on them nearly a quarter of the time). With the younger Arenado, meanwhile, the culprit appears to be more regression than anything else, though there’s some concern that he’s chasing more, and whiffing more on those chases, given that a low strikeout rate has always been a big part of his game.”

THATS A WINNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cardinals beat the A's 6-

Hudson with a strong 6 2/3 innings , another quality start
Romero was a buzzsaw in the 9th with 2 K's
Arenado , Walker and Edman with dingers
Arenado with 4 hits
Goldie with 2 doubles

A big con was leaving so many men on base again , as the Cards left the bases loaded in the 6th , 7th and 2 on in the 8th.....

I'm impressed with the outing's lately of Matz ( too bad he landed on the IL ) and Hudson and Liberatore.......Hope Liberatore can continue tomorrow and build off his last start.........................

Saw this yesterday and will say I don't agree with Mo on certain things but I do agree with bringing in 3 starting pitchers. Not sure what will happen but with him vocalizing this so early I approve. Load up pitching and have that option of Hudson, Liberatore, few young guys as options once injuries/skip start/underperformance happen. Glad to see Mo understanding that having Matz/Hudson as 4/5 starting off next season is not ideal or make a serious contender. Not having quality pitching is bad enough besides the lack of depth.

I'm glad Mo wants to add starting pitching but I am skeptical about the quality of SP he will sign. Going out and getting real a SP1 and a couple of SP2 pitchers is one thing. Getting 3 SP3/SP4 and hoping beyond hope that a couple of them are magically transformed into SP1s is something else.
We shall see.

Free agent class is not loaded/strong. I look for them to trade for at least one pitcher and some players/prospects on the move

I didn't mean to imply all the new SP would be free agents. That would be a nearly impossible task. All of them are looking for the golden or nowadays, the rhodium ticket. Trades are the only way to make it affordable.

Yeah I knew what you meant the whole time. All good (y)

Cardinals will be paying with $$$ and players this offseason if landing 3 starters. If Cardinals trade for a pitcher with 2-4 years of team control than we are likely losing someone the fanbase will be ticked off about. Going to happen one way or another.....

My view is this pitching situation is not an easy fix. It took some time ro get where the Cardinal pitching staff is right now. And in my opinion it is going to take some time to correct it.
