Unfortunately, men and women have consensual one night stands one person may not want to date or a relationship... In the past I've seen from others that were hurt emotionally for choosing to have a one night stand be livid a few times spread lies and rumors about others but the difference is they just talked crap or were emotional.

The way things are headed... relationship partners are going to demand that each of them have a lawyer present to protect their interests as well as a court reporter to take down what gets said for future possible uses. Or perhaps even a boiler-plate 'Pre-Dating Agreement' before meeting up.

Take the "unconsensual" out of your post and and the post you're addressing makes all kinds of sense.

Of all the scenarios presented so far, State of Chicago just really rings true. That's why Brad and Josh saw nothing wrong with letting Shannon play. They didn't think it was going anywhere. Not to say that B&J didn't sit down and have a long talk with Shannon...

I’m not saying that I don’t believe that that type of scenario could happen. What I don’t believe is that scenario would lead to a rape charge if there is documented communication between the two parties. What prosecutor or police department could take this seriously?

“Hey I had a one night stand with this guy. It wasn’t consensual but then I tried to start a relationship with him. Since he won’t be in a relationship with me, I want to press charges against him.”

If I was a prosecutor/police/juror I would tell that person to get lost. You want me to press charges/convict someone who you basically begged to be in a relationship with you after this act happened? And I’m supposed to believe that that act was forcibly against your will but you somehow like the person that did that to you enough to pursue a relationship with them?

I have a little more for this.

I’ve seen people talking about the tweet and rumor talking about TSJ at a bar with the girl and some confusion of him being on the football team or not. Idk if this is the same stories a couple of insiders have referenced to, but I can add a tiny inkling of validity to it.

I have a friend who tutored athletes from both the basketball and football teams a few years ago before graduating, and he knows someone still directly in the program. His friend in the program said the story of TSJ fingering a girl at the bar is the story that is apparently believed in the program and what TSJ claimed happened. I haven’t read everything in this thread but did see people mentioning this story and how it wasn’t valid because it was from a ?tweet?. Just wanted to add that it may be more valid than just an online rumor.

And what a game it was.
TSJ left his mark on the program. If that was the last time we ever see him in an Illini uniform, he did the fanbase proud. He will do the fanbase even more proud if he is found not guilty of this charge

I really doubt there will be much of anything to learn out of the statement he gives anyway
I doubt it too. JW will be very succinct with his statements and we likely won't get much insight. But, one thing that should be done by the media is to question what they knew, how much they knew, and why they let TSJ play if there were allegations swirling around. It really does our program no good knowing that we built this team around TSJ as the face and now have to basically reconfigure everything midseason. I would've rather they knew about the allegations and advised TSJ to step away from the team so the team wouldn't have to face the after effects of what is going on now. I feel like this is where JW and BU went wrong. This team could have had more time to learn how to play without TSJ and now we're almost midway through the year. It's going to be very difficult for BU, staff, and players to mentally re-group and move forward without their brother. But, to also be fair, BU has a history of completely overhauling offensive schemes midway through the year when the original schemes were deemed to not be successful. So, this isn't totally new for BU to have to change things on the fly

Same. My information comes from the law enforcement side - I was told the victim alleged he fingered her in a bar after the football game. And that she initially said it was a football player but after seeing TSJ’s image, identified him. Seems like the same story is coming from multiple angles. I was also told he gave a dna sample and admitted to being in that bar that evening.

I have to assume that based on the information they were operating under, the investigation resulting in an actual charge came as a surprise. That being said, I doubt they admit that today. Maybe something along the lines of, "the charge being filed was the first credible, actionable information we received to warrant a suspension" or something similar. They didn't just let him play, they made him the face of the program. Giant post-game hugs included from Josh. Have to believe they were at least a little surprised by this outcome, whether prepared for it or not.

I am sure BU and JW knew the allegations and thought that NO charges would ever be brought. I am sure they believe he did nothing criminal. I am also guessing when we hear the actual "facts" of "alleged assault" we will be even more in disbelief that we lost our AA player and potential special season over said "allegation." Time will tell.

If the bar story is true, is there any hope TSJ suits up for the illini again?
To the legal scholars among us….

What about this scenario. They bring the charges to a grand jury. He is indicted, but for a lesser crime. He then pleads guilty to some form of misdemeanor and is back in the team by late January. Is this even a remote possibility?

Necessary disclaimer - I'm no insider.

But just thinking through the odds on this, I say 99.9% chance he does not. Now we can "hope" all we want. But it was posted earlier that the first court date isn't even until 1/18. That's literally two months before the end of the conference season. Barring the charges being completely dropped, the accuser recanting her claims, or some unexpected plea bargain where he basically gets no time to serve, I just don't see it.

There has to be more to the story. I just cannot believe this results in a rape charge. I'm no lawyer, but I do have common sense. What an f'd up situation. I will say, Illinois has some of the toughest, most loyal fans in existence. The things they have been through boggle the mind.

The governor was in Kam's? I like the sound of the 80s
Big Jim Thompson: I seem to recall a speech he made at The Assembly Hall (perhaps in advance of a conference basketball game) where he concluded the talk with “….and now it’s time to watch our Illini STOMP-ON-PURDUE!!!”

To a roaring standing ovation, of course!!

This may have been the same day he stopped at Kam’s.

Whitman is in a total no win scenario. There are those who would not be happy unless Shannon is drawn and quartered on live TV (aka Dan Bernstein). There are others who would not be happy with anything less than a full throated, stand by my man Shannon defense. He has to try to walk the tightrope to protect the university and support his staff and athletes.

Under the law in Kansas, any penetration is considered sexual intercourse and can lead to a rape charge.

Here is my thinking. I believe his lawyers have investigators turning over every rock plus the defense gets to see the evidence. I would think if there was anything really damaging to Shannon, his eligibility would have been different this year. JW probably knows what they have or have not got against Shannon.
