I don't like how coaches lose their minds on the sideline. It's a bad precedent for how to act in nearly in any situation. Being in that state shows an anger problem to me, which can lead to physical assault with some.

I’ve been around numerous coaches who are intense during games…and never once have I thought man this is gonna lead to him strangling someone at home.

So he chokes his wife out and then she realizes he is going to lose his job/career and/or she is intimitated by the piece of crap so she now does not want to press charges. This is a very common occurrence where a woman feels scared or threatened and changes her tune. Sad statement.

You can say that in some cases but the charges for this specifically include either a prior domestic or strangulation. That doesnt seem like some random "cooling off" charge.

This news about Beard comes less than two weeks after this came out: ‘(Nebraska Football Coach) Mickey Joseph Arrested For Assault’.

The legal process will play out with both of these situations. And personal judgments must be kept in check until all the facts come out. BUT... one wonder’s if there is something emerging here.

Coaches live with a great deal of stress and pressure. It never lets up and follows them everywhere from home to job to media gatherings looking to make news.

Most coaches seem to be able to handle these pressures and stresses without breaking. But some can’t.

Both Texas and Nebraska are big-time programs with very high fan and institutional expectations and great histories to try to live up to. This adds yet another layer of pressure and stress on everyone involved – the coach, the coach’s family, friends, co-workers, etc.

Maybe things are just becoming too much to handle for some individuals.

Much is done about the physical health of persons involved in sports teams. The finest in professional care and facilities. The finest in weight rooms, etc.

Maybe it’s time to put more emphasis on building up the mental health care facilities that serve players and maybe the coaches as well.

Perhaps a coach would be hesitant to visit a mental health professional and consider that a sign of weakness or being ‘un-manly. If so, that kind of attitude has to stop. It is a sign of strength to seek out help when things don’t seem right. And there should be no stigma whatsoever held against a person with the courage to seek out help when they need it.

So as the pressures of College Ball get more and more intense... the need for care and a healthy safety-value for that stress grows by the day. It’s time for institutions to start to get ahead of this right now.

Well, the university is going to have to do something today... Texas has a home game tonight against Rice. Can't imagine Beard will be on the sidelines for that.

UT 100% needs to issue a release today saying he's suspended indefinately while this matter is investigated. My guess is he gets fired with cause right about late February so they can be early in the carousel .

He cant survive this there, even if the wife drops charges. It will never go away. The state still has the cops as witnesses and no way does anyone in law enforcement take this lightly these days .

For the legal experts out there, would it be more financially beneficial for the complaintant to refuse to cooperate. Then settle in the future with a person who wasn't fired for cause, but where that person received a hefty buyout.

I believe he is done.

Looks like Texas has a "No Drop" Policy. He is going to lose a ton of money and be ridiculed and he deserves every bit of it.

This is true, if not arrested then someone will be removed from the premises until tempers cool and everyone has time to think.

There are some exceptions.(indeed: Satan, Juan Howard…I mean come on. Those dude are suspect.) If this had been Juan I would have been a lot less surprised. I gotta say.

Dude, shot people/at people with birdshot and then more or less blamed the victim…nice guy!

But you’re right…it isn’t like their aren’t also meek, quiet mild-mannered, church youth group leaders that turn out to be creeps as well. Hence, the saying about the quiet ones.
