I thought wrosie24 did a better job on b-ball unis, IMHO.

Those would have been perfect.

I'm 100% certain we'll see some "F1GHT1NG 1LL1N1" uniforms...just give it some time. Groce even said that we didn't see everything tonight

Although those do look slick, that is a generic decision that some high school teams are sporting. It would not have given Illinois the unique design that they were looking for.

this. As much as i like that design with the fighting illini and the simplicity and strength of it, it doesn't have personality or anything unique about it.

Again I'm not saying it's worse, just saying that doesn't check all the boxes the school is looking for

What is up with the blue shorts? I have seen 2 different styles...I think? One pair has the big zig-zag style, like Ray Rice modeled, but I have seen other shorts that have some sort of small zig-zag pattern that are different. Are those more basketball shorts as well?

Those are for the women's team

Does anyone know how close Nike's Total Orange is to Illini orange?

Color Fail. There are no marks in our brand book that have a blue I with an orange outline...

Edit: Other merchandise is using this color combo as well. White hat and golf polo...

I'm a little confused by the fact that the white men's jersey's have the two-tone lettering, but the women's jerseys are orange lettering with the blue outline. Wish that would have been more consistent.

I never thought I'd say this, but having some time to take it all in, I think there's no question our football jerseys are better than basketball.

Those zig zags are brutal and look different for the sake of looking different because some old people thought young people would think it's cool..I predict these basketball jerseys will get a makeover in a year or two.

Get rid of the lightning bolts and just put the shield at the bottom of the shorts similar to how the Bulls have that diamond design on their shorts and you have yourself a winner. Or transposing the same vertical bars style from the side of the football pants to the jersey and shorts. That is kind reminiscent to the 05 jerseys but the vertical bars would not be so thick this time around. And Fwiw, I like the two tone font, but liked it better when it just said illini rather than Illinois.

Regardless, good job Nike and Illinois for a job well done!

Also, I'm still debating whether I like the Nike shield/badge design or my modified design. It's a slight change that eliminates some of the architectural undertones and column elements at the top, but it does stay in line with the "superhero" influence that was mentioned. Thoughts?

I think people will like the basketball uniforms more when they see them in person

Not bad but I think it loses the F imagery a little bit in your version, which was your intention, but i personally prefer the column imagery.

Could you try making this version since I have no editing skills? Could you take the current shield and simply flip the stripes from where they currently are and put them on the top so it's pointing "up"? Then perhaps moving the I from it's current location and moving it up higher so it's touching just below the stripes.

This may help distinguish the Fs while making it look less like a locomotive, as somw people have suggested, (though I like it as is).

Yeah, the old baseball unis are better, in my opinion. But hey, we (Illinois) asked for it!

I was told tonight that baseball's uni's are not totally done.

This...everything there looked great today. Especially the football helmets, the pictures online don't do them justice

Any idea what the back of the basketball jerseys are like? Is Foellinger still on it or is there some other design? I don't think I've seen any pictures of that. Thanks!

okay this may sound silly, but I really like the "new" block I. The single border and slight curvature with the orange that is being used is pretty good. made that boring thing about as sleek and cool as possible

Me too

Compare to the really old one:

I'm actually not sure...I wasn't keeping an eye out for that. I remember seeing a picture online that shows the backs of all the athletes, but I can't find it. Maybe someone else can help out with that

Edit: thatguy92 just said it's the same as before ^^

I propose shield/badge 2.0, only a few hours after 1.0 goes live. Thoughts?

I actually like this better than the official shield...not that Nike or Illinois will change it. But well done.

Overall, I like the new look. Lots of color combos, wording & symbols to choose from. The white football uniform does look awesome...until the first grass stains. The basketball shorts are too long for my taste but the feather illusion is great.

Overall, two thumbs up from me.

I'm out of the business of too much in-depth discussion. It's bad for all of us, haha. But I needed to share this.

Remember how I felt this design might and feel it does follow lazy Nike trends like Mizzou's more than any thing particularly relevant to Illinois? I'm not here to debate that further. Most of you like it a lot. I don't. Ok. But I thought this was interesting.

Nike's description of our new number font:

(By the way. Our numbers don't actually have any serifs. Which leads to this...)

Nike's description of the Mizzou font 2 years ago:

It's still okay to like it. Just as it's okay for me not to. But I just needed to point out that Nike wasn't exactly putting the thought into this that they want you to believe. (Which isn't to say it was thoughtless—clearly there are some nice Illinois ties.) And on that note, infused with speed doesn't mean anything in regard to typography. Filler description.

It was pretty obvious that most of the stuff the Nike rep was saying was cliched crap. It sounded like something I'd say if I were BS'ing a paper at the last minute. I really like the re-brand, but I could have done without the buzzwords and superhero comparisons at the ceremony.

I like our new ones, but these would have been better. Oh well, maybe Groce's secret throwback will be somewhat like these.
